Poldowski: Tango for Violin and Piano

Tango is a dance style piece for Violin and Piano, written by Poldowski . They were composed for the Violin virtuoso Pawel Kochanski (1887-1934). Poldowski was pen name of the Belgian-British composer and pianist Regine Wieniawski , later Lady Dean Paul (1879-1932). She studied Piano at Brussels, London, and Paris, and started performed her own compositions at the age of 14. She initially adopted the pseudonym in order to pose as a male, but later cast of the anonymity, even performing under the false name. She is best remembered for her chamber compositions, and the many songs she wrote, both in English and in French.

Missa in tempore incerto

Following the great success of his Magnificat, the internationally famous pop and jazz choir composer Christoph Schönherr has composed his MISSA in tempore incerto. “MISSA in tempore incerto Mass in a difficult time. The beginning of the 21st century is beset by threats to the planet that will pose undreamt-of challenges to humanity. The music oscillates between fervent entreaties, cries for help, and hope. For the musical exegesis I found suitable and contemporary idioms in blues and Latin styles in particular. The instrumental scoring of the Mass is similar to that of the Magnificat, and thus a concert combining the two works would be possible.

Romantic Pieces for Viola and Piano op. 75 : Arrangement for Viola and Piano

“Sooner or later the “Romantic Pieces” will pave their way through all the salons”: thus the periodical Dalibor predicted when the “Romantic Pieces” op. 75 were first issued by the publisher Simrock in 1887. Since then they have become some of Dvorák’s most popular works for violin and piano. Now they are being made available for violists also.Bella and Semjon Kalinowsky have arranged the four pieces on the basis of the “Complete Edition of the Works of Antonín Dvorák”. The piano part of the original version remains, while the violin part has been adapted for viola; it has been transcribed into the alto clef and includes fingering and bowing marks.With theirentrancing melodies and poetry, these pieces pose few technical challenges and are thus easy to play.

Franz Schubert: Piano Sonata In B Flat Major D 960

In 1828, the last year of his life, Franz Schubert composed three sonatas for piano which are generally described as the culmination of his lifelong occupation with the piano sonata genre. Schubert’s role as successor to classical-era composers is clearly evident in them, while at the same time his very own, deeply personal tone resounds here. Our carefully revised edition of this frequently performed B flat major Sonata is based on the autograph and first edition. Once again, Schubert here seems to have gathered up all his powers of introspection and tranquillity. Above all, the calm theme of the first movement captivates through its dreamlike expression. While it doesnot pose technical-virtuosic problems for the player, itis highly demanding in terms of luminosity of tone and of subtlety of nuance.

A Schubertiade as a role model, the composer - who himself grew up with pop music - imagined Schubert in the singer/songwriter pose of the 70s: with a Fender Rhodes and the voice of a pop singer. So, he staged his first Schubert Lounges for his friends in Oslo. Inspired by one of these house concerts, baritone Halvor Mellen suggested Buene that they could work together as singers.Eivind Buene is interested in this friction between different aesthetics and different systems of thought. In the further developed Schubert Lounge,three different musical styles meet: Buene's own recontextualized version of Schubert songs, Halvor Mellen's interpretation of Buene's music composed for his voice based on fragments from Schubert's diary, and Tora Augestad's very personal interpretation of Schubert songs.
