Batman: The Telltale Series is an episodic adventure game for PC, PS4 etc. dedicated to one of the most famous superheroes of all time, who was born in 1939 in the DC Comics comic magazine. The production was developed by Telltale Games, a studio specializing in this genre, known e.g. from such titles as Tales from the Borderlands, The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us or Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series.The plot of Batman: The Telltale Series is not directly related to any movie, comic book or game dedicated to Batman. Instead, developers from Telltale Games studio presented players with their own vision of the city of Gotham and the interpretation of the character of the famous superhero, focusing in a typical way on the issues of his moral choices. The game presents Batman at a relatively early stage of his career, when he already has all the well-known gadgets, and criminals respect him. On the other hand, the police are still wary of him, and some law enforcement officials don't mind using a gun when they see him.The whole story is about both aspects of our protagonist's life and the activities undertaken both as Batman and Bruce Wayne. Importantly, the choices of each of these identities affect the reality of the latter. The scenario focuses mainly on the hero's personal problems, including attempts to maintain the reputation of his own family, as well as the effects of the night fight with criminals on his body and psyche.In the game we meet a whole gallery of celebrities known to fans of the series, such as Alfred Pennyworth, Vicki Vale, James Gordon and Renee Montoya. However, there were no different Batman helpers like Robin, Batgirl or Nightwing.The plot of the game consists of five episodes: Realm of Shadows, Children of Arkham, New World Order, Guardian of Gotham, and City of Light.In terms of mechanics, Batman: The Telltale Series follows paths worn by most of the studio's previous games. Therefore, we get an adventure game composed of five episodes, in which there are no traditional story puzzles, and the gameplay focuses on telling an interesting story, shaped by the choices and actions of the player. While playing, we mainly explore subsequent locations, conduct extensive dialogue sequences with NPCs and make a number of moral decisions that, at key moments of the game, affect the further development of the story. Importantly, these consequences take place not only within one episode, but also in all subsequent ones, thanks to which the game can be played multiple times, each time discovering a different version of the story.As we direct the actions of the famous superhero, there are also numerous action scenes during the game, which were realized in the traditional form of a QTE sequence (quick time events) for the Telltale Games studio. It is also present during traditional combat scenes, when flawlessly pressing the appropriate keys charges a special energy bar, the filling of which allows us to quickly end the fight.
