There are two large trays, one for the large Voyage of the Beagle tiles and one for the discovery and adventure tokens.This game boards need to be placed in the box in the following sequence. First go the boards and rule book from the Voyage of the Beagle expansion. Then goes the main game board, followed by the first three character sheets. There are two trays for coins, meaning they can be spread around the table making access easier. The coin trays are sufficiently large for the metal coins should you have them. Each player has their own tray for their colour. These are the four resource trays, with separate slots for each kind of token and the dice and stands. These are the trays for the small cards. There is space again for all cards to be sleeved with quality sleeves. The trays allow for the Amber Mines® expansion small cards. The game boards, rules and storybook fit in a recess on top of the lower trays. The rulebook goes first, which provides space for the ring binder on the storybook to go next. The storybook is followed by the game board and player boards, and then by the Amber Mines® rulebook and the board overlays. Last goes the game atlas, which fills the top of the box, acting as a lid on all the trays below. There is a gap next to the rules underneath that allows the ring binder to not impact on the box lid when closed. The small resource trays can be taken from the box and placed directly onto the supply board. Other trays can be arranged aorund the board as needed. Packing the box is simple: first place the player boards, scorepad and large markers on top of the cross-piece tray. Next place the supply board on the left hand side in the recess provided. Each player colour has it's own token tray, and all the trays can be used during game play. There is space for all cards to be sleeved with quality sleeves. The insert includes two filler trays. When the insert is added to the Big Box variant of the game these are placed at one side to hold the other trays in place when storing the game vertically. When packing the box, simply add the rule books on top of the trays. This fully fills the box and allows for vertical storage of the game. The insert works equally well with the regular sized edition of Istanbul® (box size 22.8 x 31.7 x 7.5 cm). Here the two filler trays are not needed. There is 2.5cm gap at one end of the box, but provided this end is kept at the top when storing vertically, everything will be kept in place. When used with this version of the game the higher trays mean that there is lid-lift of 14 mm when the box is fully loaded.

The coin tray works equally well with either the card coins from the game, or the upgraded metal coins. When packing the box, first place the remaining two player boards on top of the trays to cover them. Then place the rule book, followed by the main board segments. There are two decks for the paladin, townsfolk and outsider cards, including all the Kickstarter promo cards. And a separate tray for vertical storage of all the small cards. When fully packed the lid will be raised by 2.3 cm, though due to the neutral tone of the box base this does not affect too much the way the box looks on the shelf. There are two trays for storing the four building types, a tray for the superproject tiles and small cards to be stored vertically. There are three large card trays for the leader and player aid cards, the doomsday cards and the expansion cards. The last tray is for keeping the timeline tiles tidy. All cards can be sleeved. The boards and rules go on top of the trays acting as a lid, allowing the game to be stored vertically.
