Leonard Cohen: Popular Problems

Leonard Cohen: Popular Problems

Popular Problems is the thirteenth studio album by legendary singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen . This songbook features all of the songs from the album arranged for Piano, Vocal and Guitar. Released a day after his 80th birthday to wide critical acclaim, Leonard Cohen 's thirteenth album is a dark and understated work featuring Cohen 's distinctive voice, his poetic lyrics and some bluesy instrumentation. Featuring songs like Slow , Almost Like The Blues and You Got Me Singing , the album is a throwback to those dark American dive bars where the smell of smoke and whisky blends with the sounds of a deep and croaky voice. On Popular Problems , this voice comes from the legendary figure of folk music whose mysteriously cryptic lyrics made their way onto the scene in 1967. After struggling as a poet and novelist, Cohen turned his hand to folk songs which, like Bob Dylan before him, he was perfectly suited to. The album is a subtle and quiet one, with beautiful lyrics, simple melodies and some interesting music that ranges from Piano chords to folk Guitar strumming. There are even a few unexpected surprises such as the Middle-Eastern influences on the song Nevermind . These little touches keep the album interesting and exciting while retaining the essence of Cohen 's past music. This Popular Problems songbook would be perfect for the Leonard Cohen fan, the singer-songwriter looking to learn from a master, or just someone who loves great music by a great musician.

The Library Of Modern Piano Music

The Library Of Modern Piano Music

Some of the most beautiful and diverse pieces by some of the finest composers in recent history are included in this enormous Library Of Modern Piano Music . Such a comprehensive collection of brilliant works for solo Piano belies the rich quality and sheer amount of music being composed that just begs to be learned. Over 100 fantastic pieces are guaranteed to keep you learning from this truly classic selection until the next century! The Library Of Modern Piano Music boasts an unprecedented volume and variety of amazing compositions, some well-known, some more unfamiliar, some composed as standalone pieces and others as film scores, but the one thing uniting them all is their impeccable musicality and how enjoyable they are to play. Featuring the biggest names in contemporary classical music, composers like Einaudi lend their wonderful compositions ( Primavera,   Una Mattina ), and all-round geniuses like Philip Glass are represented with a generous selection of their finest work ( Metamorphosis Five , Opening Piece From Glassworks  and more). The varied progression of Piano music through the 20th century to the present day has given rise to an exceptionally vast and diverse repertoire. The unbelievable depth of the composers included here means you'll rarely be stuck for something to play. Kaija Saariaho, Stravinsky, Francis Poulenc, Dustin O'Halloran, Nico Muhly and Witold Lutoslawski are genuinely just a fraction of the composers featured in The Library Of Modern Piano Music . Some great standalone compositions like Samuel Barber's incomparable Adagio For Strings  sit aside excerpts from longer works like a portion of Edward Gregson's An Album For My Friends  or Joby Talbot's Once Around The Sun . If you happen to be a fan of film and television scores, a taste of Michael Nyman's distinguished score for The Piano  is included, a section from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,  as well as parts of Richard Rodney Bennett's score for the now rarely-seen but superb 1980s miniseries of Tender Is The Night. Many established composers are included in this collection who are widely-recognised as masters. However, The Library Of Modern Piano Music  also includes many young virtuosos who have not yet achieved that status but are certainly well on their way. These original compositions span standalone pieces, albums, suites and arrangements from diverse talents, making The Library Of Modern Piano Music  a collection that is certain to be seen by future generations as a perfect collection of the best of contemporary classical music.

Lars Jansson Trio: Just This

Lars Jansson Trio: Just This

Just This, the latest album from Lars Jansson Trio due out October 19th, is an album of immense talent and musical excess from three of Scandinavia’s most renowned jazz musicians.   Lars Jansson is a jazz pianist, composer, arranger and educator. He was born in 1951, and grew up in Örebro, Sweden, where he was bored by his lessons at the community music school. In his early teens, a relative lent him records with Miles Davis, Ben Webster, and Mose Allison, creating a solid foundation for his musical education. Jansson’s career has been in full flourish since 1970, and he has for the main part been focusing on the trio format. Lars Jansson Trio has long been one of the most renowned jazz groups in his native Sweden and the rest of Scandinavia as well. In 1998, he was nominated for the Danish Jazzpar Prize and he became the first jazz professor in Aarhus, Denmark. He was honored in Denmark with a Grammy in 2001 for ”Best International Album,” with the album Hope.   Lars Jansson Trio are now ready to release their new album Just This. Assisted by Thomas Fonnesbæk on bass and Paul Svanberg on drums, Jansson has created a body of work that deals with various themes of life, and pays tribute to some of Jansson’s heroes. Fonnesbæk is a well-respected bassist in his own right, playing with the likes of Justin Kauflin and Alex Riel, and Svanberg, who is Jansson’s son, is a widely used drummer on the Danish jazz scene. The album, 13 tracks in total, comes by as a beautiful and diverse collection of tunes that display the collective talents of three very gifted and experienced musicians.   The title track Just This, as well as the track No Purpose, deal with how we are all defined by our culture and upbringing. To experience and accept all that happens in the ”flow” that is our life is no easy matter. It takes practice and an open mind to ignore expectations and pre-conceived attitudes, and completely immerse oneself in the present as it unfolds. Waltz for Bill is a tribute to Bill Evans, originally recorded in 2003, and now presented in a trio format. Receiving is inspired by the art of being able to receive, inspired by Jansson previous compositions Giving-Receiving and Giving. Intimate Talk is the conversation between guru and disciple, but it can also be the kind of low-key, intimate and magical conversation one has with another person. Closing track To Have Or To Be, a title borrowed from the book by Erich Fromm, is about finding the balance between our career and material life and the spiritual aspect of our lives, and the dilemmas related to this, concluding an album that is equally focused on life and great musicianship.   "Jazz music is one of the few human activities that succeeds in combining responsibility for the collective with individual freedom. The great challenge for every musician is to find his personal sound, to express his true self and at the same time find his role in the group. In our search for self knowledge, finding meaning in our lives and to full fill our destiny, jazz music is a fantastic art form to help us on that path." Lars Jansson
