There is both notation and TAB and no page turns for any of the pieces in this book. The reason? This book is made for musicians, by musicians. You can get the book with a CD and the guitar and mandolin are separate tracks. You can turn the mandolin totally off and play with the cd. There is no "Tick Tick" before the pieces, instead there are two measures of intro with the guitar, so you can sit and listen to the CD and become familiar with the pieces without it sounding like a learning CD. There are chords with the music and at the end of the book, there are examples of what the guitar is doing for many of the tunes in both tablature and notation. These tunes sound terrific, and are a great addition to any repertoire. You can use them for any kind of gig, or you can try doing some medieval fairs, medieval feasts or medieval weddings. The bowl back mandolin looks so much like the lute, most people would never know the difference. Often when I play the lute, they ask me if it's a mandolin. I play lute, guitar and more recently mandolin. I know the music. These pieces are particulary suited for the sound of the mandolin. I love playing them. The book is beautiful and scored professionally. The paper is heavy stock. The titles may not make a lot of sense, but these are great pieces. Many have variations to make them longer.

As playing funk styles is a passion of Gordon ’s, he has written this instructional book 100 Ultimate Soul, Funk and R&B Grooves based on the influences of the great Funk, Soul and R&B artists such as: James Brown, Herbie Hancock, The Crusaders, Average White Band, Marvin Gaye, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Parliament, Ramsey Lewis, Booker T and The MG’s, MFSB, Billy Preston etc. Besides the afore-mentioned styles Gordon has also added a few grooves that are Afro-Caribbean such as: Latin, Reggae and Calypso. Each of the 100 grooves have been recorded with the Keyboard part playing along with a rhythm section of Guitar, Bass, Drums, Organ and, in many of the grooves, Percussion. There is also a three minute Play-Along track for each of the 100 grooves minus the keyboard part so that you can practice along with the rhythm tracks adding up to over 5 hours of Play-Along tracks. Every tune in the book is included on the digitally mastered CD. Though the tunes are very effective as solo material, Allan chose to record them with violinist Elena Rojas. Elena has given a skillful, delightful performance of the music and Allan has rendered the chords artfully. The result is a really lovely CD; listening will be a pleasure. For the player who is new to music of Spain and South America, the recording will give insights into the melodies, and it will allow the violinist who has no access to a chord instrument to hear and play along with the guitar as the violin part can be turned down by fading one channel.
