Motion Simulation and Mechanism Design with SOLIDWORKS Motion 2020

Motion Simulation and Mechanism Design with SOLIDWORKS Motion 2020

This book is written to help you become familiar with SOLIDWORKS Motion an add-on module of the SOLIDWORKS software family. It covers the basic concepts and frequently used commands required to advance readers from a novice to intermediate level in using SOLIDWORKS Motion. SOLIDWORKS Motion allows you to use solid models created in SOLIDWORKS to simulate and visualize mechanism motion and performance. Using SOLIDWORKS Motion early in the product development stage could prevent costly redesign due to design defects found in the physical testing phase. Therefore using SOLIDWORKS Motion contributes to a more cost effective reliable and efficient product design process. Basic concepts discussed in this book include model generation such as creating assembly mates for proper motion; carrying out simulation and animation; and visualizing simulation results such as graphs and spreadsheet data. These concepts are introduced using simple yet realistic examples. Verifying the results obtained from the computer simulation is extremely important. One of the unique features of this book is the incorporation of theoretical discussions for kinematic and dynamic analyses in conjunction with the simulation results obtained using SOLIDWORKS Motion. Verifying the simulation results will increase your confidence in using the software and prevent you from being fooled by erroneous simulations. | Motion Simulation and Mechanism Design with SOLIDWORKS Motion 2020

High-Speed Precision Motion Control

High-Speed Precision Motion Control

Edited by Takashi Yamaguchi Mitsuo Hirate and Chee Khiang Pang with contributions from pioneers known for their ground-breaking work High-Speed Precision Motion Control discusses high-precision and fast servo controls in hard disk drives (HDDs). The chapter authors describe the control technologies they’ve developed most of which have already been successfully applied to mass production of HDDs. As the proposed methodologies have been verified on commercial HDDs at the very least these advanced control technologies can also be readily applied to precision motion control of other mechatronic systems e. g. scanners micro-positioners photocopiers atomic force microscopes (AFMs) etc. Each self-contained chapter progresses from concept to technique and presents application examples in automotive aerospace aeronautical and manufacturing engineering. The control technologies are categorized into high-speed servo control precision control and environment-friendly control making it easy to find an appropriate control technology according to their domain of application. The book also makes MATLAB®/SIMULINK® codes for benchmark problems available for download. The control technologies described range from fundamental classical control theories to advanced topics such as multi-rate control. The content contains a healthy balance between materials from the contributor’s research works and that in the wider literature. The resulting resource empowers engineers and managers with the knowledge and know-how to make important decisions and policies.

Biomechanics of Human Motion Applications in the Martial Arts Second Edition

Biomechanics of Human Motion Applications in the Martial Arts Second Edition

Biomechanics of Human Motion: Applications in the Martial Arts Second Edition explores the biomechanical principles of nine different forms of martial arts with specific attention paid to their anatomical features. Within this examination Professor Arus highlights the use of energy and force especially in Kyusho-Jutsu. Whereas the first edition provided an in-depth explanation of the Aikido techniques of Kokyu-ryoku the second edition focusses specifically on the grabbing and liberation techniques used in Kyusho-Jutsu. Such an examination stresses the importance of vital points finger manipulation and their co rresponding emphasis on energy usage. As Professor Arus details throughout Biomechanics of Human Motion Second Edition knowledge of this form of pressure point maneuvering is useful in both attack and counterattack situations especially since the martial artist’s anatomo-physiological adaptation to effort represents the most significant development in fighting regimens. The second edition also includes a discussion of the katana. Professor Arus notes that defense against the katana is nearly impossible describing the three major steps used in Japanese (Ma). It is customary in Aikido to defend against a wooden sword. By using a wooden sword an Aikido Master’s demonstration is pre-determined. Techniques to defend against these demonstrations are discussed throughout the book. Finally various attack and defense techniques using pressure points are also explained in Biomechanics of Human Motion Second Edition. | Biomechanics of Human Motion Applications in the Martial Arts Second Edition

Emotion in Motion Tourism Affect and Transformation

Emotion in Motion Tourism Affect and Transformation

What happens when tourists scream with fear shout with anger and frustration weep with joy and delight or even faint in the face of revealed beauty? How can certain sites affect some tourists so deeply that they require hospitalisation and psychiatric treatment? What are the inner contours of tourist experience and how does it relate to specific emotional cultures? What are the consequences of the emotional cultures of tourists upon destinations? How are differences in emotional culture mobilized and played out in the transnational contact zones of international tourism? While many books have engaged with the structural frames of tourist practice and experience this is the first to deal with the emotional dimensions of tourism travel and contact and the ways in which they can transform tourists destinations and travel cultures through emotional engagements. The book brings together an international array of scholars from anthropology psychiatry history cultural geography and critical tourism studies to explore how the movement to and through the realms of exotic people wild natures subliminal art spirit worlds metropolitan cities and sexualised 'others' variably provoke emotions peak experiences travel syndromes and inner dialogues. The authors show how tourism challenges us to engage with concepts of self other time nature sex the body and death. Through a set of ethnographic and historic cases they demonstrate that such engagements usually have little to do with the actual destination but rather are deeply anchored in personal memories repressed fears and desires and the collective imaginaries of our societies. | Emotion in Motion Tourism Affect and Transformation

Modelling and Analysis of Fine Sediment Transport in Wave-Current Bottom Boundary Layer

Modelling and Analysis of Fine Sediment Transport in Wave-Current Bottom Boundary Layer

The evolution and utilization of estuarine and coastal regions are greatly restricted by sediment problems. This thesis aims to better understand fine sediment transport under combined action of waves and currents especially in the wave-current bottom boundary layer (BBL). Field observations experimental data analysis theoretical analysis and numerical models are employed. Silt-dominated sediments are sensitive to flow dynamics and the suspended sediment concentration (SSC) increase rapidly under strong flow dynamics. This research unveils several fundamental aspects of silty sediment i. e. the criterion of the incipient motion the SSC profiles and their phase-averaged parameterization in wave-dominated conditions. An expression for sediment incipient motion is proposed for silt-sand sediment under combined wave and current conditions. A process based intra-wave 1DV model for flow-sediment dynamics near the bed is developed in combined wave-current conditions. The high concentration layer (HCL) was simulated and sensitivity analysis was carried out by the 1DV model on factors that impact the SSC in the HCL. Finally based on the 1DV model the formulations of the mean SSC profile of silt-sand sediments in wave conditions were proposed. The developed approaches are expected to be applied in engineering practice and further simulation. | Modelling and Analysis of Fine Sediment Transport in Wave-Current Bottom Boundary Layer
