Editing Music in Early Modern Germany

Editing Music in Early Modern Germany

Editing Music in Early Modern Germany argues that editors played a critical role in the transmission and reception of Italian music outside Italy. Like their counterparts in the world of classical learning Renaissance music editors translated texts and reworked settings from Venetian publications adapting them to the needs of northern audiences. Their role is most evident in the emergence of the anthology as the primary vehicle for the distribution of madrigals outside Italy. As a publication type that depended upon the judicious selection and presentation of material the anthology showcased editorial work. Anthologies offer a valuable case study for examining the impact of editorial decision-making on the cultivation of particular styles genres authors and audiences. The book suggests that music editors defined the appropriation of Italian music through the same processes of adaptation transformation and domestication evident in the broader reception of Italy north of the Alps. Through these studies Susan Lewis Hammond's work reassesses the importance of northern Europe in the history of the madrigal and its printing. This book will be the first comprehensive study of editors as a distinct group within the network of printers publishers musicians and composers that brought the madrigal to northern audiences. The field of Renaissance music printing has a long and venerable scholarly tradition among musicologists and music bibliographers. This study will contribute to recent efforts to infuse these studies with new approaches to print culture that address histories of reading and listening patronage marketing transmission reception and their cultural and political consequences.

The Social Psychology of Change Management Theories and an Evidence-Based Perspective on Social and Organizational Beings

The Social Psychology of Change Management Theories and an Evidence-Based Perspective on Social and Organizational Beings

Changes are rarely accomplished by individuals. People are social animals and changes are social processes which have to be organized. Social psychology is essential for the effectiveness and development of the field of change management. It is necessary to understand people in change processes. Social psychology also teaches us that meaning is key during change and intervention. Social psychology makes change management comprehensible to people and allows them to consider their actions in groups and the organization on their merits. They may seem obvious and self-evident but practice and science as well as the popular change management literature show that it is not. Drawing on the field of social psychology and based on primary research The Social Psychology of Change Management presents more than forty social psychological theories and concepts that are relevant for the field of change management. The theories and concepts are analyzed and categorized following Fiske’s five core social motives; belonging understanding controlling enhancing self and trusting. Each theory will have an introduction in which its assumptions and relevance is explained. By studying the scientific evidence including meta-analytic evidence the book provides practitioners students and academics in the field of change management organizational behaviour and business strategy the most relevant social psychological ideas and best available evidence thereby further unleashing the potential of social psychology in order to feed the field of change management. By categorizing and integrating the relevant theories and concepts change management is enriched and restructured in a prudent positive and practical way. The overarching goal however inspired by the ideas and perspective of leading thinkers like Kurt Lewin James Q. Wilson and Susan T. Fiske is to make the world a better place. Social psychologists (being social scientists) study practical social issues in our case issues related to change management and application to real-world problems is a key goal. Therefore this book goes beyond the domain of organizational sciences. | The Social Psychology of Change Management Theories and an Evidence-Based Perspective on Social and Organizational Beings

Internal Displacement and Conflict The Kashmiri Pandits in Comparative Perspective

Internal Displacement and Conflict The Kashmiri Pandits in Comparative Perspective

Grounded in multidisciplinary research this book presents a methodical understanding of those displaced within their national borders the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The IDP phenomenon remains less understood than that of refugees due to the internal nature of the crisis linked to a nation’s sovereignty which assigns the responsibility for care to the national actors as opposed to an international body. However the IDP phenomenon poses an international humanitarian challenge with upwards of 40 million people currently in internal displacement across the globe. This book helps answer the most perplexing questions surrounding conflict-induced protracted displacements: namely how do positions embraced by key actors inform/influence IDP policies and why despite the promise of robust return packages do families remain reluctant to return to home communities and equally reluctant to embrace new host communities? Capitalizing on the diagnostic tool kit known as Dugan’s Nested Model uniquely adapted to the Kashmiri Pandit displacement this book also analyzes issues of the similarly displaced communities of Nagorno-Karabakh Abkhazia and South Ossetia Kosovo and Darfur regions. This book will be of much interest to students of peace and conflict studies humanitarianism Asian politics and International Law in general. | Internal Displacement and Conflict The Kashmiri Pandits in Comparative Perspective

Pathology of the Developing Mouse A Systematic Approach

Pathology of the Developing Mouse A Systematic Approach

Pathology of the Developing Mouse provides in so far as feasible one complete reference on the design analysis and interpretation of abnormal findings that may be detected in developing mice before and shortly after birth. In particular this book is designed specifically to be not only a how to do manual for developmental pathology experimentation in mice but more importantly a how to interpret resource for pathologists and other biomedical scientists faced for the first or hundredth time with defining the significance of distorted features in some fantastic murine developmental monstrosity. The topics covered in this volume include a full range of subjects encountered when building and wielding a developmental pathology tool kit: baseline anatomic and physiologic traits of developing miceprinciples of good experimental design and statistical analysis for mouse developmental pathology studiesprocedures for anatomic pathology examinations to evaluate structural changes at the macroscopic (gross) microscopic (cells and tissues) and ultrastructural (subcellular) levels suing conventional autopsy-based or novel non-invasive imaging techniques;methods for clinical pathology testing to assess the biochemical and cellular composition of tissues and fluids; options and protocols for in situ molecular pathology analysis to undertake site-specific explorations of the various mechanisms responsible for producing adverse findings (i. e. lesions) during development; and well-referenced and illustrated guides to the interpretation of anatomic pathology and clinical pathology changes in the animal (embryos fetuses neonates and juveniles) and its support system (placenta). | Pathology of the Developing Mouse A Systematic Approach
