When you work with stretch fabrics, you are best advised to work with stretch tape. This tape is stretchy and follows curved edges without puckering. Stretch straight cut tape is ideal for necklines, scallops, edging and corners. You can edge your blanket, skirt or body stocking with straight cut tape. Straight cut tape with stretch is similar to bias binding. These products are used for the same purposes. Our bias tape maker makes it easy for you to make your own bias binding. Take a strip of fabric and insert one end into the bias tape maker tool. Heat the iron and press folds in your bias binding.

DIY with elasticated cordYou can choose from several great colours to get the look you want. Choose a contrasting colour for a cool finish or go tone-on-tone - it's entirely up to you. We love this elastic as a drawstring in sweatshirts, but generally just use it as a cool extra detail that keeps the garment in place. Or maybe you want to create one of those DIY notice boards where elastic bands create a graphic pattern across the board? This elastic would also work super well for that purpose. With a width - or diameter - of 3 mm, this is a versatile elastic that can be used for many different projects. It is braided, made from polyester/latex and has a relatively firm elasticity. Vegan leather in great colours PAP FAB - or vegan leather - is an affordable alternative to leather. At first glance, PAP FAB looks like heavy cardboard, but it's much more than that. PAP FAB is made from a mix of cellulose fibres and naturally derived latex - a combination that gives it a unique finish when washed. It gets a little curly and gets that classic leather look that works perfectly for many DIY projects. Exciting DIY projects in PAP FAB The material is solid-coloured, so you don't have to worry about the front and back of the project. On the other hand, the only limit to what you can make out of it is your imagination! At first glance our ideas include bags, mule bags, gorgeous rustic flowerpot holders and braided poinsettias. Leather look for the kitchen If you need an authentic bread basket for your breakfast table, this is where you get started. PAP FAB is food safe, and as you can wash it at up to 60°, it's perfect for DIY projects for the kitchen. Or how about making cool popcorn cups in different colours and sizes, so everyone in the family has their own unique cup for the next movie night? Search for "PAP FAB" on this page and find inspiration and patterns. Three tips for those working with PAP FAB Draw your pattern directly on the white backing with a pencil before cutting it out (don't use your regular fabric scissors for PAP FAB - it will dull them). The material feels like strong cardboard to cut, so when working on larger projects, machine wash (at max 60°) or soak the material before starting. That way, the material is more flexible to work with. If your project gets a little too curly, you can always smooth it by moistorising the material and ironing it (max heat represents two dots). PAP FAB is water-repellent, but not waterproof.

Cotton satin beige mouse adventure

Cotton satin - the best of both worldsHow about trying our soft cotton fabric in a range of beautiful colours for your next creative project. It's soft and comfortable to work with.Satin refers to the way the fabric is woven. This means that when we say cotton satin, it has the same beautiful weave as more 'classic' satin, while the cotton quality gives a more matt finish to the fabric. And what can you use cotton satin for? Well, that’s entirely up to you. We prefer using it for bed linen. The natural material of the cotton in the delicate satin weave makes for some really lovely home made bed linen. As with so many other cottons, it is also suitable for clothing. Cotton is comfortable to wear and the fine weave gives it a nice finish - for a summer shirt or skirt, for example. Cotton satin is also perfect for a tablecloth for the table. Sew the tablecloth yourself or select "Sew as a tablecloth" and we will sew it for you (click on the text for details). Practical information about cotton satinMade from 100% cotton, it's soft and fluffy and, as always, you buy the fabric by the metre, so you get exactly the length you need. You can wash it at 60° and iron at medium heat - but avoid the tumble dryer; let it air dry instead. TIP: Finish your seams properly - satin tends to fray a lot. You could also consider using a wider seam allowance to secure your seams or use overlock stitching. As always - test your seams on a scrap piece beforehand to see which technique works best for your piece of fabric. Search "9 tips for sewing satin" for more tips. What is satin? Satin refers to the way the fabric is woven, where one side of the material is smooth and shiny. For this satin we recommend that you use a size 70 universal needle.
