Age of Wonders: Planetfall is a spin-off of the popular series of turn-based strategies developed by Triumph Studios. It is also the first production under this banner that was released not only on personal computers, but also on consoles.
Contrary to previous works of the studio, Age of Wonders: Planetfall does not take us on a journey to a fantasy land, but to a science fiction universe. Players take control of a galactic empire, and their task is to end its stagnation and lead it to a better future. In the course of the game, we get to know not only other factions that develop in their own way, but also the history of the world, including the fate of the fallen civilization of Star Union.
Despite a different "setting", in terms of gameplay mechanics, Age of Wonders: Planetfall draws heavily on solutions developed by previous games in the series. During the game, we spend most of our time on the world map, dealing with the expansion of the main city and the establishment of specialized colonies, discovering new technologies that increase our combat potential, establishing more or less friendly diplomatic relations with (often conflicting) groups and introducing new doctrines. An important role is also played by turn-based clashes with enemy forces, during which the units we control are moved to a separate board; It is worth noting that thanks to the destructible environment and the extensive possibilities of modifying the arsenal used by our soldiers, the creators managed to expand the range of tactical options. All this means that victory can be achieved here both by conquest and diplomacy, as well as by extermination (after developing appropriate technologies).
