Nerium Oleander (East Indian Oleander) – Shrub - Extra

Nerium Oleander (East Indian Oleander) – Shrub - Extra

Nerium Oleander, commonly known as oleander; is a large evergreen ornamental shrub that has been cultivated since ancient times. The narrowly lanceolate are leathery and dark green. They usually grow in pairs or groups of three. The stem is covered with greyish bark and exudes sticky latex if it is cut. Oleander grows well in warm subtropical regions and is extensively used in the Mediterranean as an ornamental shrub in parks and gardens or informal hedge along roadsides. Make sure small children and pets are kept away from oleanders as all parts of the plant are highly toxic if eaten but not normally dangerous to touch though the latex can cause irritation in people who are allergic to it. The plant itself has a low hardiness rating of H3, making it unsuitable for the British winter time. Make sure to shelter it during any potential cold snaps. The plant is generally disease free but is prone to potential pests so take this into consideration. Stick to the guidelines of pruning group 9 for this plant. The final height of this plant is between 1.5 m – 3 m (4.9 ft – 9.8 ft) and the final width is between 1 m – 1.5 m (3.2 ft – 4.9 ft). Rhyncospermum Jasminoides / Trachelospermum Jasminoides (Star Jasmine) - Cylinder

Rhyncospermum Jasminoides / Trachelospermum Jasminoides (Star Jasmine) - Cylinder

A climbing, evergreen, woody shrub. Its leaves are oval, shiny and darkgreen in colour with a lighter shade on the undersides. From May to the end of the month of August, simple, pure white, 5-petalled, intensely fragrant flowers are produced. Trachelospermum jasminoides is commonly grown as an ornamental plant and houseplant. In gardens, public landscapes, and parks it is used as a climbing vine, a groundcover, and a fragrant potted plant on terraces and patios. It will flower in full sun, partial shade, or total shade, and requires well-drained soil (if constantly kept damp it may succumb to fungal infection), moderate water, moderate fertilizer, and a climbing structure (whether a trellis or another plant is secondary). Propagation is most commonly done with cuttings/clones. It is widely planted in California and also particularly in the Southeastern United States. It is debated however, where the common name for this plant, confederate jasmine, comes from. While some dictionaries suggest that the name comes from the plant’s common cultivation in the southern United States, others argue that the term actually comes from Malaysia, and the former Malay confederacy. It gets another of its common names, trader’s compass, from an old Uzbekistan saying that it pointed traders in the right direction, provided they were of good character. It is also called star jasmine in Europe and Chinese jasmine or Chinese ivy in Asia. Latin Name: Rhyncospermum Jasminoides, Trachelospermum Jasminoides English Name: Star Jasmine, Confederate Jasmine, Southern Jasmine Species: Oleaceae Genus: Trachelospermum Foliage Type: Evergreen Foliage: Green Fragrance: Flower Flower: White Flowering Period: Spring-Summer Suggested Location: Outdoor. Bambusa Phyllostachys Bissetii (Bisset Bamboo) – Espalier

Bambusa Phyllostachys Bissetii (Bisset Bamboo) – Espalier

The Bisetti bamboo will be first to produce new growth – which is edible – each year. The mainly upright, though slightly arching canes, glossy-green, sometimes with a purple tinge, and yellowish green when older, are of the clump-forming variety with deep green leaves that will withstand bad weather and can form a very dense canopy – don’t expect much light to reach the ground under this plant. Great on its own, in large containers or as a very effective privacy screen. Bamboos must not dry out, they must be watered well during the first growing season, if grown in containers they need plenty of room and they will always need water during dry weather. Average growth. The deep-green canes reach diameters of between 2.5 and 3 cm. The leaves, which are also a beautiful green, are narrow and lanceolate and measure between 12 cm and 15 cm in length. This is a very particular species for its high resistance to cold ( -25 °C). Mexican Blue Palm (Brahea Armata)

Mexican Blue Palm (Brahea Armata)

Brahea Armata or Mexican Blue Palm trees are native to the hot climates of Baja California in Mexico. With massive fan-like fronds, the Mexican Blue makes a great ornamental plant for the British garden. Though they originate from hot climates, the Mexican blue isn't very hardy at H1C and needs sheltering during a standard British winter. It can flourish either potted or bedded into most soil types. Brahea armata is called Mexican Blue because of its unique blue-silver leaves and grey tinted trunk which can grow to half a meter in diameter. In terms of maintenance, as the palm grows, dead fronds (palm leaves) will need to be cut off, other than that it will self sustain fairly well and in general needs little maintenance. The plant itself is prone to potential pests so keep an eye out for this. It is generally disease free however so that can give you some peace of mind. Latin Name: Brahea Armata English Name: Mexican Blue Palm Species: Arecaceae Genus: Brahea Foliage Type: Evergreen Foliage: Green-Blue Flower: Yellow Flowering Period: Summer Suggested Location: Outdoor. Suggested Soil Type: Well-drained. Ilex Crenata Kinme (Tuscan Style)

Ilex Crenata Kinme (Tuscan Style)

An affordable variety of Tuscan Bonsai, with a fantastic appearance that is easy to maintain. Tuscan Cloud Bonsai Trees are a popular choice because of their dense foliage and their ability to change colour based on exposure to the sun. Over time, leaves at the top of its bundles become golden-yellow, where as those lower down retain their dark green colour because of the shade they receive. Tuscan Cloud Bonsai Trees also produce very small flowers and berries during the summer. Specially sculpted over many years to create elegant “statement pieces” for your garden, bonsai plants are always a favourite with visitors thanks to their unusual shape and the dedication involved in growing them. Traditionally described as “unique”, this is no longer entirely true – thanks to patient and persistent growers, like those at GardenPlantsOnline, it is now possible to produce bonsai plants with similar shapes if they are seeded at the same time and grown under the same conditions. This consistency of shape gives you the chance to create beautifully symmetrical garden designs, such as lining a pathway with a line of matching bonsai trees, or bookending both sides of a doorway or arch. Quercus Ilex (Holm Oak / Evergreen Oak) - Standard Pleached

Quercus Ilex (Holm Oak / Evergreen Oak) - Standard Pleached

Commonly called the Holly Oak tree, Quercus Ilex often live for more than a thousand years. They are large evergreens with very dense crowns of leaves. They have strong polymorphic leaf of 2 - 9cm long; the younger leaves are wider and have toothed, sharp margins. The colour and texture of the Quercus Ilex varies from hairy, tender and pale green when they first appear to a leathery, dark green, covered in soft white hairs on the underside, when adult. Both male and female flowers are borne on catkins and appear in June, the first ones being the most decorative as they are a soft yellow. Grows in poor soil, but prefers calcareous, and does not like clay. Will withstand a lack of water in hot, dry summers and tolerates any kind of pruning. These are effective wind breaks, are suited to full sun or shade, good on their own or in groups and resists the salty winds of a sea climate very well, without damage to the beautiful foliage. It has a hardiness rating of H4 making it good for the British climate but better take measures to protect it during extreme cold snaps. It is prone to pests but is generally disease free.
