Hollow Knight is a metroidvania game developed by the independent studio Team Cherry. The creation of this title was possible thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign on the Kickstarter website. Although the production was announced, among others, for the Nintendo Wii U console, it was finally released on personal computers and on the new equipment of the giant from Kyoto, i.e. Nintendo Switch.
Story
Hollow Knight takes the player to a fantastic world, and more precisely to the town of Dirtmouth, under which there is a vast underground. This labyrinth is the remains of a mysterious, ancient kingdom that attract adventurers - after crossing its threshold, the daredevils disappear without a trace. The main character of the game, the title Hollow Knight, decides to face the challenge - riches, glory, and answers to numerous questions swirling in his head are to be waiting for him.
Gameplay
In Hollow Knight, the action is presented from a side perspective. The game is based on the exploration of cavernous, interconnected locations, collecting more and more powerful equipment, developing skills and fighting with enemies. Due to the specificity of the species represented by the title described here, gaining access to many places requires solving a puzzle or using a specific item or ability. Although most of the time we traverse the dungeons on foot, during the game we also have to mount an unusual mount in the form of an overgrown insect.
Our way is faced by numerous and varied adversaries. In addition to standard opponents, there are over thirty bosses to defeat - facing them requires learning about their behavior patterns and discovering their weaknesses. In clashes, we use both melee weapons and magical powers. However, this is not the end of the dangers lurking for the player - the dungeons are full of all sorts of traps and chasms through which an inattentive adventurer can quickly say goodbye to life. Fortunately, not everyone is hostile to the protagonist - in the course of the adventure we meet colorful characters who will be happy to share their knowledge or possessed items, as well as teach us new combat techniques and improve our equipment.
