The two years spent in Transylvania were among the most agreeable of sixteen years’ acquaintance with Austrian military life, and I shall always look back to this time as to something quaint and exceptional, totally different from all previous and subsequent experiences. Much interested in the wild beauty of the country, the strange admixture of races by which it is peopled, and their curious and varied folk-lore. (Emily Gerard) Worldwide is Emily Gerard mentioned for her article “Transylvanian Superstitions” which made the Irish Bram Stoker (another marginal of Victorian Britain) change the location of his Dracula from the Tyrol to the much more “exotic” Transylvania. This reference is common in the international scholarship on Bram Stoker. But the rest of Gerard’s literary work entered a thick cone of oblivion though her work is much richer. She wrote novels in collaboration with her sister Dorothea. They signed as E.D. Gerard. Emily also published novels and short stories that she wrote on her own. But from the Romanian perspective, her travelogue The Land beyond the Forest, inspired from her stay in Transylvania, is of utmost importance. But certainly, from the point of view of Romanian-British contacts, Emily Gerard is a writer who cannot be neglected. Alina Daniela Suciu's book continues the Romanian bibliography on this writer (the articles by Andraş, Mudure, and Teuceanu), but her study is more ample than these previous attempts to valorize Gerard. Suciu’s monograph is a solid research, clearly structured, an interesting contribution to Scottish Studies, literary studies, women’s studies and a valuable discussion of nomadic transnationalism. Any further attempt to discuss Emily Gerard will have to take Alina Daniela Suciu's study into consideration. (Mihaela Mudure

Volum apărut în coeditare cu Casa de editură Max Blecher O poezie deșucheată în care cuvintele se ciocnesc ca două trenuri ce vin din direcții contrare pe aceeași linie, o gîndire paradoxală ce nu răsare decât arareori din modele naționale cunoscute, un mod brutal de intrare în dialog cu universul sau cu femeia iubită, o întoarcere pe dos a stărilor grave sau hazoase, o literatură cu mai multe intrări și ieșiri într-un spațiu cu puține cuvinte scrie Dumitru Păcuraru. Nu știu cine este acest autor care debutează în poezie cu un mod de enunțare asemănător cu o lovitură la plex. Tot ce devenise vetust în limbajul românesc este pus la forje, soldații de plumb ai cuvintelor se transformă în arătări. O nouă față a teribilismului literar, bine regizat, se face văzut în poezia lui Dumitru Păcuraru. Cuvintele se mariază prin liberă alegere. Ca de actuala, e actuala rau, desi actiunea se petrece intre 1945 si 1965, pe vremea comunismului sovietic si rudimentar. Se pare ca ramele vin la noi ori de cate ori ceva merge prost. (MIHAI TATULICI) Primul personaj principal al volumului de nuvele, intitulat cu obstinatie Vin ramele, este insusi sistemul. Sistemul vazut, conspectat si trait la nivelul articulatiilor celor mai fi ne si mai ascunse, in increngatura de capilare minuscule, periferice chiar, care alcatuiesc visceralitatea joasa, bazala. In jungla aceea trebuia si putea fi prins omul de rand, omul comun. Locurile actiunii nu sunt spectaculoase, dimpotriva; sistemul exista si pretindea oriunde complicitati oneroase, respectarea protocolului, facerea de concesii si compromisuri, pentru a-l obliga pe omul comun la intrarea in randuri. Nici vorba, pentru ca in vremea din urma, Mihai Tatulici e unul din cei mai "audiati” oameni ai Televiziunii. Decat propria lui neincredere in propriu-i scris literar? Nici asta, pentru ca, de fapt, el n-a incetat niciodata sa scrie proza, a incetat doar sa publice, si nu din propria vointa (a se citi prefata la aceasta carte). Decat virusul, atat cel autohton, al lui lasa-ma sa te las, al lui fi e ce-o fi etc.? Asta da, asta poate sa fi e adevarat, mai ales ca autorul acestor povestiri e un bucovinean hatru peste care s-a asezat temeinic un Mitica sudic (nimic peiorativ in asta!), chemator la contemplatie prin comentariu, iar nu la infaptuire. ?i poate ca infrangerea de acum a prozatorului in fata criticului de odinioara este, ea insasi, transformabila in victorie. Daca e sau nu asa, va decide cititorul. (LAUREN?IU ULICI) * * * Dupa 40 de ani Am scris aceste nuvele in zece ani, intre 1971 si 1981. Vreo patru ani au stat la Editura Cartea Romaneasca, dar nu s-au putut publica. In 1993 mi le-a tiparit Max Banus, in 100.000 de exemplare. S-au vandut toate pentru ca eram autorul emisiunii Veniti cu noi pe programul doi. Nuvelele recompun copilaria mea in Bucovina, primii ani ca ziarist de presa scrisa si apoi ca realizator de emisiuni la televiziune. Eram tanar si credeam ca lumea e a mea. Intre timp, lumea mea e la apus, si o alta se naste. Locul imaginarii si al fanteziei a fost luat de tehnologie, oamenii citesc tot mai putin pentru ca alte indeletniciri le ocupa mai tot timpul. Recitind ce am scris de la 30 la 40 de ani, am senzatia ca lumea mea de atunci e mult mai frumoasa. Cu siguranta, ma insel. Dar va propun, prin aceasta reeditare, sa incercati si voi.
