Tito's Handmade Vodka "I was raised that if you are going to do something, do it right, do it better than anyone else, and charge a reasonable price." - Tito This is the ethos that is behind Tito's Vodka. Indeed, prior to Bert 'Tito' Beveridge creating his vodka, he went out and purchased every vodka he could. He found the two best, and then when he managed to distill a vodka which consistently beat these - he felt he had his final recipe. So, in 1995 Tito got the first (legal) permit to distill in Texas (USA), and started creating his Vodka. The label is simple, and created by Tito himself. He didn't want to add any unnecessary costs, or distract from what was inside the bottle. They batch distill their vodka (which is corn-based, not the more common potato or wheat) using old-fashioned pot stills and due to the corn base, the vodka is naturally Gluten-Free. The distillation is done a total of six times to ensure it's smoothness. This is a vodka which is perfectly neutral, and extremely smooth. Read more about Tito's Perfect Serve This works perfectly as a shot due to its smoothness. However it works just as well with orange juice (a Screwdriver Cocktail), or with a tonic. For something a little different and deliciously floral, try with Thomas Henry's Cherry Blossom Tonic. Take a tall glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the vodka. Pour over 200ml of the tonic and stir gently.

Zuidam Dutch Courage Dry Gin Not only do the Zuidam Distillers have a great family of gins under the Dutch Courage label, but they are also hand-made by two generations of distillers, father Fred and son Patrick van Zuidam The term Dutch Courage dates back to the 17th century. It was noted the British saw the effects that drinking the typically Dutch Genever (the precursor to modern gin) had on the Dutch - giving courage before a battle. The term "Dutch Courage" came about.... this may not be 100% true.... but it makes for a great story! So... whilst Zuidam's gins won't necessarily fill you with courage, we certainly believe they will give you a superb drink! Their core gin is made with nine carefully chosen botanicals from around the world ( Angelica, Cardamom, Coriander, Juniper, Lemon, Licorice, Orange, Orris Root and Vanilla). This gives a perfectly layered gin. The initial nose is full of pine and citrus, and a touch of exotic spice from coriander. It entices into the drink - and gives a classic gin aroma. The taste starts full of citrus again, but has notes of spice to it. Violet, anise and juniper (with its pine flavour) also make an appearance. As the drink finishes in the mouth there are flavours of nuts which come through, specifically nutmeg and walnuts. It clears the palate nicely - not overly lingering, and leads this to being a deliciously dry, and easy to drink gin. We do like this one with Fever-Tree Indian Tonic though. 50ml of the gin to 150ml of tonic works well. Plenty of ice, and a citrus garnish. Being slightly stronger, this also holds its flavour and works well in cocktails. We particularly liked this in a French 75.

Scapegrace Vodka Following the success of their award-winning gin, Scapegrace have now created their own Vodka. They use a similar approach in making their vodka as they do to their gin. It's made in Canterbury, New Zealand, and uses a wheat-based neutral grain spirit, and 100% artisanal water. Whereas other vodka producers go to great lengths to extol how many times they have distilled their vodka, Scapegrace create theirs using a single distillation. Using a 19th century copper pot still they believe this, and the natural components found in the water and grain add a uniqueness to the vodka. The resul is a vodka which coats the mouth perfectly with a thick consistency and a delicious creaminess. There is a slight sweetness to it, leaving a creamy pavlova finish. This is a delicious, simple, and honest vodka. Read more about Scapegrace Perfect Serve Delicious enjoyed ice cold neat, but it also works exceptionally well in the mix. We love this in a Cloud 9 cocktail. In a mixing glass filled with ice, add 60ml of the vodka, 1 dash of Angostura Orange bitters, 10ml Cinzano Bianco and 5ml of olive brine. Stir well, and strain into a low glass. Garnish with an olive.

Gin - Tropez Do you know the way to St. Tropez? Well, one sip of this gin will transport you straight to the south of France! This gin was created to capture the Saint-Tropez spirit. Inspiration comes from the  beautiful lavender fields and gardens in Ramatuelle (just south of Saint-Tropez), as well as the plethora of mediterranean herbs found in the area. Not to mention the 'joie de vie' of the area. The distillation process ensures a balance between juniper, lavender and other botanicals. (These include caraway seeds, coriander and angelica root - but the rest remain a secret). The result is a delicately floral gin, which is also perfectly refreshing. Just what is needed in the warm, sunny mediterranean.  Perfect Serve For a delicious Mediterranean Gin & Tonic, take a large glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the gin. Gently pour over 150 - 200ml of your chosen tonic and garnish with a slice of lemon or lime.   This works with a quality neutral tonic, but also a mediterranean inspired tonic such as Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic, or our favourite, Franklin & Sons Mallorcan Tonic.

Rebel Straight Bourbon Whiskey - Cognac Barrel Finish Founded in 1849 by William Larue Weller, Rebel have been defying trends since the very beginning. At that time the everyone was creating bourbon using a rye mashbill. They decided to do things differently, and pioneered wheat-based bourbon.  Now, over 170 years later, they continue to defy trends - whilst also winning awards with their wheated recipe.   There are a number of requirements for a Bourbon to be labelled as a 'straight bourbon'. They need to have been aged for a minimum of two years (and if under four, the age must be shown), and not have any added colouring, flavouring or other spirits For their Cognac Barrel Finish (which is produced exclusively for the EU market), they take their original Rebel Straight Bourbon (which is aged for at least 4 years in American Oak), and give it a final ageing in cognac barrels for a further 6 months. This adds additional depth and flavour to the already delicious Bourbon! It's colour is a bright amber, which gives aromas full of ripe fruite and berries and sweet honey. Vanilla, caramel and a hint of oak come through too. The flavour remains full, like the original. Dried fruits, rich plums, sultanas and vanilla all come through. It finishes with a defined warmth and lingers pleasantly on the palate. St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur 70cl

St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur Whilst the bottle may look like this delicious liqueur has been made for decades, it was actually launched in 2007. During a visit to a London bar in 2001, the creator (Robert Cooper) had a craft elderflower cocktail which used elderflower syrup in its creation. Finding the drink delicious he wondered if there was a way to create a liqueur which captured these flavours. Coming from a distilling background, he embarked on a mission to do just this. In 2007 St. Germain was launched, and has since gone on to win numerous awards, and fast become a staple in cocktails and cocktail bars around the world. The bottle itself is inspired by the Saint-Germain-des-Prés area of Paris, and the Art-Deco motifs found there.  The creation uses petals from the Elderflower (Sambucus nigra) petals which are collected in the Savoie region of France over a period of a few weeks in the spring. These are then often transported by bike to ensure no damage to the delicate petals. Each bottle is numbered with the year the petals were collected. The flavour itself is quite unique, and this is one of the reasons it's become so popular - there's just nothing else quite like it! It has a light, sweet and floral flavour - which really captures the elderflowers in both aroma and flavour. It captures notes of citrus, pear and also passionfruit. The finish is long and refreshing - and feels perfectly balanced. Perfect Serve Delicious enjoyed on its own with soda water, but also really lifts cocktails. Minke Irish Gin The founders of the Clonakilty distillery (located on the southwest coast of Ireland), the Scully family, have farmed their windswept coastal area of 9 successive generations. Through their love of the land, and knowledge of the area they found the best resouces for a maritime distillery. The distillery itself is located right at the waterfront, in the heart of Clonakilty town. Not only do they distill here, but also offer the public the option to see how their fantastic drinks are made. Produced at their distillery, Minke Irish gin is inspired by the maritime environment. From the Minke Whales seen swimming off the coast (giving their gin its name), to the Rock Samphire, a key botanical in their gin. This is sustainably harvested by hand from the Atlantic Ocean coastline and gives the gin a distinctly martitime flavour. Centuries of sea mist, soft rain and ocean spray provide a complexity to the soil that permeates through to the grass which feeds the cows that help produce whey. It is this whey that is used to create the base alcohol spirit used in making their Minke gin. It also gives a unique velvety texture and mouthfeel to it. This truly is a full circle gin, going 'from grass to glass'. Good to know: The Clonakilty Distillery support Whale and Dolphin Conservation in their worldwide quest to protect these majestic creatures. On the nose this is crisp and dry, reminiscent of a sea breeze. The flavour is also fresh and zesty. As the drink develops on the palate the Rock Samphire comes through with green, fennel-like flavours. It finishes with a slight saltiness, and warmth from red peppercorns. Pour in 60ml of Minke Gin and 120ml of your favourite tonic. We like Three Cents Tonic Water, or if you're feeling like adding more maritime notes - try with Three Cents Aegean Tonic Water. Garnish with two slices of lemon or lime and a fresh mint leaf.

Blacks Irish Whiskey Maple Mayhem 70cl

Blacks Irish Whiskey Maple Mayhem Located on the Wild Atlantic Way (a scenic route in the south of Ireland), The Blacks Brewery was started in 2013. A family run company, it is owned and operated by Sam & Maudeline Black (hence the name!). Their ethos was to create (initially) beers which weren't mass market. They wanted products with passion and personality. In 2015 they decided to expand and added a state-of-the-art distillery which allowed them to produce spirits as well. Their first was gin, which was followed in 2018 with the first Irish Rum, and then in 2020 with whiskey. This cross-over also allow them to age their beers in spirit barrels, and vice versa - adding additional depths of flavour to their drinks. Blacks' whiskies are distilled in two copper stills, Morrigan and Bonny. They then mature the whiskies in a variety of different cask types depending on the finished whisky. They do all their own milling, mashing, fermenting and distilling themselves - which ensures the quality they expect from the final products. For their Maple Mayhem edition (which is non chill filtered), Blacks age their whiskey in maple bourbon casks. As Blacks put it, this gives the whiskey a delicious 'kiss' of vanilla and maple. On the nose there is a sweet introduction, as warm sugar notes come through. These are then joined by a hint of smoke, vanilla, maple and even baked prunes! The palate is smooth and oily, which coats the mouth well. Maple coated nutes, cinnamon pancakes and warm spice develop. This leads to a medium finish, not overwhelming the palate. Maple, oaky wood and a touch of smoke linger. More from Blacks Perfect Serve We recommend this is enjoyed straight up. However, as with all whiskey, enjoy however you like!

After trying a few different strengths, Judith and Martijn agreed that at 58% it opened up the rum just enough and still allowed the favour profile to come through in both aroma and taste. Put 200ml of Indian Tonic (we recommend Fever-Tree Premium Indian Tonic) in a glass with ice. Then gently pour 25ml of Conker Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur on top (remember to put the liqueur in afterwards, or it could get messy!). Garnish with a slice of orange. An easy Espresso Martini.... Take 70ml of Conker Cold Brew and 30ml cold water. Take all your ingredients and shake over ice for at least 15 seconds, pour into a chilled coupe or martini glass through a sieve (very important! Generous Gin Sometimes simplicity can deliver the best, or most flavourful experiences. It was this ethos that the creators of Generous followed when creating their gin.  They wanted an original, easy to drink and appreciate gin, one which was simple but would deliver the best Gin & Tonic. They used great natural ingredients, and produced in high precision small pot-stills. Being a French gin, they worked like they might do with a great perfume, or fine wine. Ensured it was well balanced, smooth and aromatic, and above all, elegant (it is French after all!). The botanicals they finally chose were Juniper, citrus, mandarin, red pepper, jasmine and elderflower. Depending on the botanical, they either macerate the botanical, or distill, to ensure the flavours are captured and not destroyed. On the nose, whilst juniper is the dominant aroma, it is softened by the floral notes of jasmine and elderflower. When tasting the flavours open up on the palate, with citrus and spice coming forward, before they are balanced by the juniper. Finally, floral notes helps to soften, with almost sweet jasmines notes tantalising the mouth. The finish is refreshing and long, with the delicate spice of red pepper remaining to the end merging perfectly with citrus fruits and juniper. Add 40ml of the gin, and gently pour over 100ml of your chosen tonic (we like Fentimans Connoiseurs Tonic). Stir gently, and garnish with a few fresh basil leaves, a small pinch of salt and a few red peppercorns.

Blacks Irish Whiskey Black Smoke Located on the Wild Atlantic Way (a scenic route in the south of Ireland), The Blacks Brewery was started in 2013. A family run company, it is owned and operated by Sam & Maudeline Black (hence the name!). Their ethos was to create (initially) beers which weren't mass market. They wanted products with passion and personality. In 2015 they decided to expand and added a state-of-the-art distillery which allowed them to produce spirits as well. Their first was gin, which was followed in 2018 with the first Irish Rum, and then in 2020 with whiskey. This cross-over also allow them to age their beers in spirit barrels, and vice versa - adding additional depths of flavour to their drinks. Blacks' whiskies are distilled in two copper stills, Morrigan and Bonny. They then mature the whiskies in a variety of different cask types depending on the finished whisky. They do all their own milling, mashing, fermenting and distilling themselves - which ensures the quality they expect from the final products. With their Black Smoke edition, Blacks have created a powerful Irish Whiskey which is bursting with rich peaty smoke and sweet oak. With a long and lingering finish, this is definitely for those that enjoy a lingering finish! On the nose the smokey peatiness almost jumps out at you, before being joined with floral heather and hints of honey and oak. On the palate there is a silky smoothness, and a toffee like sweetness. These are followed with complex malt flavours, stoned fruits before developing into intense full-bodied peat. Six Dogs Pinotage Stained Gin With their Pinotage Stained Gin, Six Dogs have made excellent use of their neighbours Pinotage grapes (a uniquely South African cultivar), combining these with their gin to create something truly delicious. Their gin, which has generous quantities of juniper and fresh citrus, is distilled in small batches before being introduced to the grapes. The whole pinotage grapes are rested with the gin for a period of six weeks, which allows the gin to absorb the deep red essence of this grape. This innovative process ensures a sublime combination of flavour and character, which easily appeals to both gin and wine lovers. The aroma of the gin is enticing, warm and earthy - with a hint of grape and pine. The taste sensation really brings out the freshness of a classic dry gin but adds something uniquely South African; the pinotage grape. Sip it (and we recommend you do!) and you’ll taste delicious berry notes (black cherry, plum and blackcurrant) along with a hint of tannins. Good to know: As grapes represent the terroir of the area, as well as the climate during a particular year, each harvest of grapes will have subtle variants in taste and colour.
