The Macallan 12 Year Triple Cask Matured Whisky 70cl

The Macallan 12 Year Triple Cask Matured Whisky Founded in 1824 (making it nearly 200 years old) The Macallan distillery is located in Craigellachie, Moray in Scotland. The Macallen is classed as the second or third best-selling single malt scotch (behind Glenfiddich, and perhaps Glenlivet). Initially The Macallan was only matured in oak sherry casks, which the distillery brought from Jerez de la Frontera in Spain. However in 2004 they introduced the Fine Oak series (now known as the Triple Cask Matured range), which started mellowing whisky in bourbon oak casks as well as the classic sherry casks. With their Triple Cask Matured range, Macallan have created a series of single malts which are crafted in a triple cask combination of European and American sherry seasoned oak casks and American ex-bourbon oak casks. It is this combination of oak casks which ensure a smooth and delicate character which is bursting with citrus fruits, vanilla and fresh oak. The three individual spirits, are matured in the different casks for 12 years. After this period of resting, they are expertly blended to create the final single malt. (This release was also previously known as Fine Oak 12 Years Old - it's simply the name, bottle and packaging which have changed - the contents remain the same). The result is a whisky with a rich straw colour, and a complex nose. Vanilla, melon and lemon zest all coming through. On the palate this is well balanced, with lemon citrus, vanilla and nutmeg blending with light toasted oak. The finish brings lingering fruit notes of melon and papaya as well as fresh oak and a delicate spice. More from The Macallan Perfect Serve As with all whiskies, this is best drunk how you personally enjoy it. However the distillery recommends trying with a single large piece of ice. The large cube of ice melts slowly, diluting the drink less - preserving the light notes of this single malt and its gold colour from start to finish. Alternatively, try in the mix. The Macallan 12 Year Double Cask Whisky Founded in 1824 (making it nearly 200 years old) The Macallan distillery is located in Craigellachie, Moray in Scotland. The Macallen is classed as the second or third best-selling single malt scotch (behind Glenfiddich, and perhaps Glenlivet). Initially The Macallan was only matured in oak sherry casks, which the distillery brought from Jerez de la Frontera in Spain. However in 2004 they introduced the Fine Oak series (now known as the Triple Cask Matured range), which started mellowing whisky in bourbon oak casks as well as the classic sherry casks. The Double Cask whiskies encompass part of their core range, and this 12 Year whisky falls into this category. The Macallan team ensure a mix of European and American sherry seasoned oak casks - which allow the indulgent, yet delicate flavours of the American oak to take centre stage. The more traditional Macallan character is however still present (rich fruit, sherry and spiced wood), but in a familiar backdrop.  This is a single malt with a delightful autumnal sunset colour to it. Exceptionally well balanced, fully rounded with flavours of honey, citrus and ginger. The nose has oak, creamy butterscotch and vanilla - as well as fruit from toffee apples and candied oranges. On the palate honey, citrus and wood spices and the ginger comes through, which are perfectly balanced against raisins and caramel. The finish leaves oak lingering on the palate along with a sweet warmth. More from The Macallan Perfect Serve As with all whiskies, this is best drunk how you personally enjoy it. However the distillery recommends trying with a single large piece of ice. The Macallen is classed as the second or third best-selling single malt scotch (behind Glenfiddich, and perhaps Glenlivet). The Macallan's Harmony Collection is inspired by their deep-rooted onnection to nature. These are released annually, and are limited release. Each of the releases unveils distinctive and innovative packaging, which brings new life to organic by-products. Fusing innovative techniques with natural materials ensures a new life, and renewed purpose to these materials. The third annual release, within which Amber Meadow sits, takes inspiration from nature and has been created in collaboration with Stella and Mary McCartney. This celebrates the lush and fertile lands of Scotland. Inspiration was taken from the sisters memories of warm summer days in amber fields at their family farm in the Scottish countryside. They describe nature as serene and energising, which take root in the collaboration.  In this release, discarded meadow cuttings have been given new life in this presentation box and bottle labels. The presentation box features photography by Mary McCartney of The Macallan Estate. The whisky itself has an amber hue, which is reminiscent of a summer evening. The nose brings forth rich aromas of orange and lemon. These are joined by honeysuckle, vanilla and coconut - leading to ripe barley fields. A perfect opener for this exquisite whisky. In the mouth the palate opens with a rich overtone of oak. As it warms, lemon and melon come through. In the mid-palate scones, and almonds join with delicate green tea. The finish is long and delightfully complex, giving up a rich sweetness. More from The Macallan Perfect Serve A truly exquisite whisky, we loved this with a small splash of water. The Macallan distilleerderij werd opgericht in 1824 (en is dus bijna 200 jaar oud) in Craigellachie, Moray in Schotland. De Macallen wordt geclassificeerd als de op één of twee na best verkopende single malt whisky (achter Glenfiddich en misschien Glenlivet). Een van hun gelimiteerde edities, A Night on Earth, wordt jaarlijks uitgebracht en is een unieke expressie die wordt gecreëerd door het zorgvuldig balanceren van uitzonderlijke first-fill Amerikaanse ex-bourbon vaten, samen met Europese en Amerikaanse sherry geroosterde eiken vaten. Het is gecreëerd om de speciale tijd van Nieuwjaar te vieren. Een tijd waarin mensen rondreizen om samen te zijn, het oude jaar te vieren en het nieuwe jaar te verwelkomen. Deze editie is gemaakt in samenwerking met de veelgeprezen Chinese kunstenaar Nini Sum. Het wordt geleverd met een innovatieve verpakking met meerdere lagen die een uitzonderlijke unboxing-ervaring biedt - perfect als een speciaal cadeau voor een whiskyliefhebber, of net zo prachtig voor de whiskykenner om voor zichzelf te kopen. Het kunstwerk op de doos verbindt de whisky's noten en Nini's dierbare nieuwjaarsherinneringen. De uitbarsting van vuurwerk, de verleidelijke aroma's van geroosterd eikenhout afkomstig van rijstpopcornverkopers in de fel versierde straten van haar stad, de snoepjes in haar zakken en de zoete geur van gestoomde rijstepap die haar naar huis wenkt. De whisky heeft ook een nootachtige smaak, die een echo is van de zonnebloempitten die Nini's familie deelde terwijl ze lachten en spraken over hun wensen voor het nieuwe jaar. De whisky zelf heeft een gouden zonsopgangskleur en verspreidt een weelderig aroma van geroosterd eikenhout, gestoomde rijst en eikenhoutpudding, aangevuld met citrusvruchten, vanille en haverkoekjes. Het gehemelte opent met een uitbarsting van bruisend citrusfruit (citroen en limoen) dat wordt vergezeld door smaken die lijken op een zoete romige vanillespons en geroosterde kokos.  Dit leidt tot een middellange afdronk, die zoet, geroosterd eikenhout en vanille op de smaakpapillen achterlaat. Meer van The Macallan Perfect Serve Een werkelijk voortreffelijke whisky, we vonden deze heerlijk met een klein scheutje water. Maar, zoals met alle whisky's - geniet ervan zoals u wilt!
