Fast jeder hat schon einmal auf einem Stuhl von Gerd Lange gesessen oder ein Produkt von ihm in der Hand gehalten, ohne jedoch zu wissen, wer der Designer ist. Der Möbelentwickler und Produktdesigner hat unzählige Gegenstände des Alltags entworfen, seine Stühle haben enorm hohe Auflagen erreicht, kurzum, Gerd Lange hat die Designgeschichte der Bundesrepublik der 7 er und 8 er Jahre entscheidend geprägt. Nach einer Schreinerlehre hat der Designer an der Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach studiert und 9 sein eigenes Designstudio im pfälzischen Kapsweyer gegründet. Bereits 9 8 entwarf er einen stapelbaren Stuhl aus einer Polyamidschale und Stahlrohrbeinen, der über 45 Jahre in einer Millionenauflage produziert wurde. Der schlichte Zweckstuhl mit dem lapidaren Namen „SM 4 K" erhielt den Bundespreis für Arbeitsstühle, den amerikanischen Design-Award und den Industrieform-Preis der Hannovermesse. Er steht heute im Guggenheim-Museum und im Rockefeller-Center in New York. 973 kreierte Lange den ersten Kunststoffstuhl mit Holzbeinen, der von Thonet hergestellt wurde. Der Designer und Autor Alfred Hablützel, ein profunder Kenner der Arbeiten Gerd Langes, legt mit dieser Publikation die erste Monografie zu Gerd Lange Design vor, die die wichtigsten Entwürfe in Text und Bild vorstellt.

Philip de Lange, en ung murermester, indvandrede til København fra Haag i 1729. Som en datidig gæstearbejder kom han for at deltage i genopbygningen af hovedstaden, der var blevet reduceret med en tredjedel efter den voldsomme brand i 1728. Der var brug for ham. Philip de Lange vendte aldrig tilbage til sit hjemland. Han blev i Danmark, hvor han hurtigt opbyggede en strålende karriere som en af tidens mest benyttede bygmestre. Det lykkedes ham at skabe gode forbindelser til især Søetaten og Admiralitetet, og det er da også hans bygninger på Holmen, som vi kender ham fra: Arsenalet, Hovedvagten, Mastekranen. Men Philip de Lange byggede også Asiatisk Kompagnis imposante hovedkvarter på Christianshavn foruden en stribe byhuse for borgerskabet og en enkelt herregård –Glorup på Fyn. Philip de Lange satte sit tydelige præg på den danske bygningskultur. Han bragte en international arkitektur til hovedstaden, som stadig står den dag i dag og minder os om, at vi er en del af verden. Vera Noldus, f. 1970 i Nederlandene, er uddannet cand.mag. og ph.d. i kulturarvsstudier og arkitekturhistorie fra universiteterne i Amsterdam og Utrecht, suppleret med en efteruddannelse i renovering fra Akademisk Arkitektforening.

Laws of nature have long puzzled philosophers. What distinguishes laws from facts about the world that do not rise to the level of laws? How can laws be contingent and nevertheless necessary? He argues that laws are distinguished by their necessity, which is grounded in primitive subjunctive facts (expressed by counterfactual conditionals). While recognizing that natural necessity is distinct from logical, metaphysical, and mathematical necessity, Lange explains how natural necessity constitutes a species of the same genus as those other varieties of necessity. Along the way, Lange discusses the relation between laws and objective chances, as well as such unjustly neglected topics as the completeness of the laws of physics and whether the laws of nature can change. The Ormen Lange field is situated in the Norwegian Ocean, 120 kilometres west of the Møre coast. Discovered in 1997, it represents Norway''s second largest gas field. The gas is brought from the reservoir 3000 metres below sea level to the land treatment plant at Aukra, from where it is transported through the world''s longest sub-sea pipeline to England, where it for years will cover a fifth of the total British gas need. The development represented huge technological and organisational challenges on various levels, and the complexity can easily be compared to a moon landing. Innovation and creative art of engineering made the development possible. During the development modern technology crossed the world of the past and maritime history. In 2003 a group of marine archaeologists discovered several shipwrecks, of which a historical boat lying on the seafloor very close to the planned pipleine route from the Ormen Lange field to the land industrial plant. Could a shipwreck stop the largest industrial development in Norway, or would Norwegian marine archaeologists prove to have the creativity and skills to provide innovative technology to solve the problem? This book tells the story of the Ormen Lange development, and how skills, creativity and excellent co-operation on several levels made this not only a unique industrial project but also a unique marine archaeological project.
