Reducing Fuel Consumption and Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles, Phase Two - Board On Energy And Environmental Systems - Bog

Reducing Fuel Consumption and Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles, Phase Two - Board On Energy And Environmental Systems - Bog

Medium- and heavy-duty trucks, motor coaches, and transit buses - collectively, "medium- and heavy-duty vehicles", or MHDVs - are used in every sector of the economy. The fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions of MHDVs have become a focus of legislative and regulatory action in the past few years. This study is a follow-on to the National Research Council's 2010 report, Technologies and Approaches to Reducing the Fuel Consumption of Medium-and Heavy-Duty Vehicles. That report provided a series of findings and recommendations on the development of regulations for reducing fuel consumption of MHDVs. On September 15, 2011, NHTSA and EPA finalized joint Phase I rules to establish a comprehensive Heavy-Duty National Program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption for on-road medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. As NHTSA and EPA began working on a second round of standards, the National Academies issued another report, Reducing the Fuel Consumption and Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles, Phase Two: First Report, providing recommendations for the Phase II standards. This third and final report focuses on a possible third phase of regulations to be promulgated by these agencies in the next decade. Mastering Ruby on Rails - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

There is no shortage of programming languages and frameworks out there. But in the midst of all this, Ruby on Rails stands out. Despite losing out on the top spot to other contenders, Ruby on Rails has earned for itself a position of repute and a robust user base. Ever since its debut in 2004, Ruby on Rails has rapidly become one of the most impactful and popular tools for building dynamic web applications. Rails owes much of its success to its compact design and the usage of the underlying Ruby language. It effectively creates a domain-specific language for writing web applications. As a result, many common web programming tasks—such as generating HTML, making data models, and routing URLs—are easier with Rails. Although its outstanding capabilities have made Ruby on Rails one of the world’s most popular web development frameworks, some might still find it challenging to learn and use. Mastering Ruby on Rails: A Beginner’s Guide could be just the right solution for that. Whatever your previous web development experience is, Mastering Ruby on Rails can guide you to true Rails proficiency. It will help you to: - - Install and set up your Rails development environment - - - Go beyond generated code to build Rails applications from scratch - - - Effectively use the Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern - - - Master the Ruby programming skills all Rails developers need - - - Define high-quality site layouts and data models - - - Add social features and navigate Asynchronous Javascript and XML (Ajax) - Mastering Ruby on Rails will walk you through Rails'' inner workings and equip you to tackle complicated projects with solutions that are well-tested, adaptive, and easy to maintain. This book starts by explaining critical points behind object-oriented programming and builds toward creating a full Rails application within a few chapters. By the end of this book, besides in-depth knowledge of Rails, you will also have a basic understanding of many supporting technologies such as SQL, web frameworks, and Integrated Development Environment (IDE). You will be able to quickly grasp the Rails methodology by focusing on the development from the point of view of the beginner-level developer. Additionally, you will be provided with a reliable roadmap for migrating your applications, skill set, and development procedures to the newer, more flexible programming platform that Rails offers. Moreover, learning Rails development independently will let you use all the qualities like creativeness, critical thinking, and project management. Mastering Ruby on Rails serves as a complete guide to exploring Ruby on Rails, expanding your set of skills and experience that will only benefit you throughout your professional life. If you are looking to get into the fascinating world of Rails development, Mastering Ruby on Rails is the right pick for you! Technologies and Approaches to Reducing the Fuel Consumption of Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles - National Research Council - Bog - National Academies

Technologies and Approaches to Reducing the Fuel Consumption of Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles - National Research Council - Bog - National Academies

Technologies and Approaches to Reducing the Fuel Consumption of Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles evaluates various technologies and methods that could improve the fuel economy of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, such as tractor-trailers, transit buses, and work trucks. The book also recommends approaches that federal agencies could use to regulate these vehicles' fuel consumption. Currently there are no fuel consumption standards for such vehicles, which account for about 26 percent of the transportation fuel used in the U.S. The miles-per-gallon measure used to regulate the fuel economy of passenger cars. is not appropriate for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, which are designed above all to carry loads efficiently. Instead, any regulation of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles should use a metric that reflects the efficiency with which a vehicle moves goods or passengers, such as gallons per ton-mile, a unit that reflects the amount of fuel a vehicle would use to carry a ton of goods one mile. This is called load-specific fuel consumption (LSFC). The book estimates the improvements that various technologies could achieve over the next decade in seven vehicle types. For example, using advanced diesel engines in tractor-trailers could lower their fuel consumption by up to 20 percent by 2020, and improved aerodynamics could yield an 11 percent reduction. Hybrid powertrains could lower the fuel consumption of vehicles that stop frequently, such as garbage trucks and transit buses, by as much 35 percent in the same time frame.

Learn Rails 6 - Adam Notodikromo - Bog - APress - Plusbog.dk

Rails Scales! - Cristian Planas - Bog - The Pragmatic Programmers - Plusbog.dk

Rails Scales! - Cristian Planas - Bog - The Pragmatic Programmers - Plusbog.dk

Rails doesn''t scale. So say the naysayers. They’re wrong. Ruby on Rails runs some of the biggest sites in the world, impacting the lives of millions of users while efficiently crunching petabytes of data. This book reveals how they do it, and how you can apply the same techniques to your applications. Optimize everything necessary to make an application function at scale: monitoring, product design, Ruby code, software architecture, database access, caching, and more. Even if your app may never have millions of users, you reduce the costs of hosting and maintaining it. Optimize every aspect of your Ruby on Rails applications for world-class performance. Tweak your Rails app for snappy responsiveness. Find bottlenecks that slow your code. Scale an app for massive data sets. This book introduces techniques, patterns, and tricks to make your Rails application become more performant and scale to billions of requests per day. And it does it in an entertaining and fun way, sharing real-life stories of all kinds: tales from the trenches of working on massive Rails apps, and anecdotes from working on much smaller projects in tiny organizations of a handful of engineers. Through all these experiences you will learn that scaling Rails applications is a multifaceted task, including aspects such as monitoring, query tuning, and memory-aware coding. This book is for programmers of all levels of experience, from beginners to experienced Rails veterans. You can even show your nontechnical colleagues the features and limitations of Rails at scale. Reading this book will help you make Rails applications that fly. And it will make you enjoy the process.
