Malus Coccinella Courtarou Pleached Crab Apple Tree UK

Malus Coccinella Courtarou Pleached Crab Apple Tree UK

Malus Coccinella Courtarou Pleached Crab Apple TreeMalus Coccinella Courtarou is a relatively recent variety of ornamental crab apple trees. It has already garnered interest for its exceptionally attractive display of deep pink blossoms. This tree has been trained as a pleached tree - a square crown on a bamboo frame on top of a long clear stem. In April, this deciduous tree is completely enveloped in masses of vivid magenta flowers, attracting many pollinators. While the impressive display of spring flowers is certainly the most appealing quality of the Malus Coccinella Courtarou, it is certainly not its only one. This cultivar boasts bronze-green foliage that turns to burgundy as the summer ends and small vivid red fruits that follow the flowers and stay on the bare branches well into the winter. When left to its own devices, this tree has a free-flowering habit and semi-spreading shape. However, pleached Malus Coccinella is trained to display a square crown above a completely bare trunk. To achieve this traditional look, we start training the tree while it is still young and pliable, with bamboo frames that shape the crown. Height and Spread of Malus Coccinella Courtarou Pleached Crab Apple TreeIn pleached form, Malus Coccinella is a compact tree. The height of the trunks is usually 2 metres tall excluding the pot and with a characteristic square crown raised above the trunk. Pleached Malus Coccinella is suitable for small and large gardens alike, thanks to its elegant form. How Hardy is Malus Coccinella Courtarou Pleached Crab Apple TreeLike all crab apple trees, Malus Coccinella is also robust and tough. It can withstand sub-zero temperatures and it is quite resilient. This cultivar is fully hardy in all areas of the United Kingdom. How To Use Malus Coccinella Courtarou Pleached Crab Apple TreeThe visual interest of Malus Coccinella Courtarou as a Pleached Tree is impressive: Use pleached Malus Coccinella to line walkways, or as above-fence screening that will offer privacy and heighten the vertical border between you and the neighbouring property. And for bold and contrasting display, you can use this flowering deciduous tree as a stilted hedge with an evergreen hedging such as yew at its base. How To Care For Malus Coccinella Courtarou Pleached Crab Apple TreeFor best results, plant this flowering tree in full sun or partial shade in a sheltered spot, and in moist but well-drained soil.Crab apple trees are practically maintenance-free. Similarly, pleached Malus Coccinella does not need much fussing about to stay in top form. A trim once or twice a year will ensure that it stays tidy and neat and maintains its pleached shape.

This standard-shaped tree suits above above fence screening  and makes an excellent ornamental specimen on the lawn.Callistemon is better known as Bottlebrush. It’s native to Australia but was brought to the UK in the 1800s where it’s grown in full sun and well-drained soils ever since. This Standard Bottlebrush Tree has smooth, dark evergreen lance-shaped leaves and an impressive display of bright red flowers with yellow anthers in spring. Flowers cover the branches with a truly eye-catching display and last for weeks. This version of Bottle Brush is a standard tree which means it has a single straight trunk without branches for the first 1.8 metres. The crown is rounded and can be trimmed to maintain a symmetrical shape in the winter months. If you’re looking for an unusual tree that doesn’t get too large Standard Bottle Brush is an unusual, eye-catching choice for warm gardens.Height And Spread of Callistemon Full StandardLeft unpruned Standard Bottle Brush will grow to a height and spread of 4 metres in 10 to 20 years. Keep the standard shap with a trim once per year. How Hardy Is Callistemon Full StandardA Standard Bottle Brush Tree is hardy if it’s grown in well-drained soil in a warm area of the UK. It’s drought-tolerant but requires plenty of water to establish its roots. How To Use Callistemon Full StandardA Standard Bottle Brush gives a really impressive, exotic display and is best used for evergreen screening above the fenceline or as a series of landscaping trees to accentuate avenues or pathways in larger spaces. Bottlebrush tends to fare better in southern areas of the UK, but it can grow in more northern areas if it’s planted in full sun with shelter.A great choice for Mediterranean feel gardens, Bottle Brush is an unusual choice for both country-cottage and modern urban spaces. How To Care For Callistemon Full StandardStandard Bottle Brush Trees needs full sun to flower well and will struggle to bloom in shady positions. A west or south facing spot with shelter from cold winds is best. It likes well-drained sandy soil with an acid or neutral ph and will not thrive in wet conditions.Regular pruning is necessary to maintain the standard shape.Water well until established – lack of water is the main reason new trees fail to take. Mulch well in spring to cut down weed competition and provide nutrients for the coming year.

Amelanchier Laevis Snowflakes. Juneberry Snowy Mespilus Tree

Amelanchier Laevis Snowflakes. Juneberry Snowy Mespilus Tree

Amelanchier Laevis Snowflakes is a beautiful, upright deciduous tree of the Amelanchier family prized for its large white spring flowers. It originates from North America and is also known as the Juneberry Tree or Snowy Mespilus Tree. The terms snowflakes and snowy refer to the large star-shaped flowers that cover its branches in April and attract early pollinators. This pearly spring display is the main reason gardeners choose a Snowy Mespilus Tree over others.Alongside those striking blooms Amelanchier Laevis Snowflakes produces fresh copper-coloured foliage that stands out against the white flowers. Its bushy foliage gradually turns green in the summer when its edible purple-red berries ripen. Birds will quickly eat the Juneberry Tree’s fruit. In autumn the Snowy Mespilus Tree produces dramatic orange-red foliage. It is a beautiful and practical choice for a small, wildlife-friendly garden.Juneberry Tree Hardiness LevelsThe Juneberry Tree is hardy in all UK climates and requires no specific care. Although it prefers acid or neutral ground it will grow in the majority soils and can withstand extreme cold if not waterlogged around the roots. Winds will not harm the tree but will shake the flowers loose more rapidly. How To Use Amelanchier Laevis SnowflakesIf you have a small garden the Snowy Mespilus Tree is a practical addition because it can be grown as a large ornamental shrub or as a compact, shallow-rooted specimen tree reaching an approximate height of four metres within twenty years.  A Snowy Mespilus Tree can be grown in the ground or in a large container which will limit its size. If you choose to grow one in a pot ensure you provide plenty of water in the hot summer months to ensure the best autumnal foliage display. How To Care For Your Amelanchier Laevis SnowflakesVery little pruning is required, in fact an Amelanchier Laevis Snowflakes is self-sufficient, but it’s worth cutting out any crossed stems or dead wood in winter or late spring to hold the shape. Amelanchier Laevis Snowflakes will grow best in moist free-draining soil with a yearly layer of thick organic mulch which will improve the flower display in spring. All Amelanchier appreciate sun on their foliage canopy. If you can plant yours in sunlight it will boost the rich orange autumnal colours. The tough yet beautiful Amelanchier Laevis Snowflakes is a valuable source of colour throughout the year with frothy white flowers in spring, fresh green summer foliage with purple-red berries and a stunning orange autumnal display. These attributes make it an ideal feature tree for small to mid-sized gardens.

Wisteria Floribunda Caroline Wisteria Sinensis Caroline

Wisteria Floribunda Caroline Wisteria Sinensis Caroline

Wisteria Floribunda Caroline or  Wisteria Sinensis Caroline also Wisteria CarolineThe Wisteria Sinensis was first introduced to the western world from China in 1816. The cultivar Wisteria Sinensis Caroline is a relatively new variety. It was created in New Zealand and is widely coveted for its breath-taking flower display and striking foliage. Unlike other wisteria climbers, Wisteria Floribunda Caroline blooms in the mid- to late spring months. The fragrant flowers persist into the early summer. The flower racemes of the vine start to bloom simultaneously to create a stunning display. Each dangling flower cluster measures up to 30 centimetres in length. The racemes are comprised of small pea-sized lilac and purple blossoms. Bees, butterflies and birds adore the sweetly fragrant blooms. After flowering, the Wisteria Sinensis Caroline produces bean-like seedpods. As summer progresses, the pods ripen. When autumn arrives, they normally still persist on the vine for visual interest. The foliage of Wisteria Caroline is feathery and soft green in colour. The pinnate leaves are made of 11 small leaflets that emerge a grey-green in the spring and take on a brighter green shade during summer. When autumn arrives, the dense foliage turns a bright yellow. When fully grown, the Wisteria Floribunda Caroline will easily reach a height of 9 meters. It grows well against walls, a trellis, an arbour, a pergola, or a fence. It will also grow free-standing if given ample support for its heavy frame.Plant the Wisteria Sinensis Caroline in full sun for ample flower production. It will grow in partial shade, but will generally not produce as dramatic of a flower display. The vine prefers moderately fertile soil that is well-draining. During the first year of growth, keep the soil moist to encourage the vine to produce a strong root system. After the first year, the vine can tolerate short periods of drought well. The Wisteria Caroline requires regular pruning to maintain its overall size and shape. Pruning also promotes new growth and better flower production. Restricting the vine’s vegetative growth by trimming encourages the vine to produce short flower shoots. Prune Wisteria Caroline twice a year: in January-February and again in July-August. There is little doubt that the Wisteria Floribunda Caroline is a dramatic addition to any garden setting that is sure to gather great admiration. Its eye-catching beauty is awe-inspiring. Plant the vine anywhere that the blooms can be visually enjoyed and where the blossoms heavenly aroma will tantalize the senses.
