Hibiscus Syriacus Red Heart shrub. Buy Online London & UK

Hibiscus Syriacus Red Heart shrub. Buy Online London & UK

Hibiscus Syriacus Red Heart, also known as Rose Mallow Red Heart, is a tough, reliable shrub which will bring exotic flowers in great abundance to your garden in the late summer. Its excellent qualities have earned it the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Native to Asia, Hibiscus Syriacus Red Heart is one of the last shrubs to leaf out in the spring. Yellowish when they first emerge, they turn a dark green as the season progresses. However, it is for the flowers of late summer that Rose Mallow Red Heart is grown. Starting in late July and lasting for several weeks, the bushes are covered with blooms 10 cm across, bright white with red splotches at the centre, with a prominent white stamen cone. Bees and butterflies will be drawn to the flowers. While each flower lasts just a few days, new ones continually appear. Once its magnificent flowering period ends in October, the Hibiscus Syriacus Red Heart bush will recede into the background as its leaves fall. Hibiscus Syriacus Red Heart is hardy in most regions of the UK, quickly reaching a full height of 2.4-3 metres and spread of 2 metres. Plant 1.2-1.8 metres apart. Rose Mallow Red Heart responds well to pruning. Trim to desired size once flowering has finished in the autumn, and cut out some of the older stems in the centre. Hibiscus Syriacus Red Heart can also be pruned to be grown as a single-stem standard tree. Plant your Rose Mallow Red Heart in any moist, well-drained soil in full sun, in a position sheltered from strong winds. Once established they will tolerate dry periods. Resistant to urban pollution, and not a favourite of deer, Hibiscus Syriacus Red Heart will do equally well in a city or country garden. Hibiscus Syriacus Red Heart will make a big statement during its flowering period, but has little to make it remarkable outside of late summer, so it is best planted where other shrubs will be able to take the focus the rest of the season. In a mixed hedge or grouping with spring-blooming shrubs such as azaleas, plants with a vivid autumn foliage show like Fagus sylvatica, and evergreens such as Ilex Meserveae Blue Angel, Rose Mallow Red Heart will be able to shine during its blooming season, and then let its companions take the spotlight. Hibiscus Syriacus Red Heart’s stunning late summer blooms will bring fresh new colour to your late summer garden!

Escallonia Apple Blossom. Shrubs and Hedges to buy online UK

Escallonia Apple Blossom. Shrubs and Hedges to buy online UK

Escallonia Apple Blossom is a low growing evergreen useful for low hedges and as ornamental shrubs.  Beautiful pink flowers resembling apple blossom in late summer / autumn months. It produces candy pink lush flowers between summer and autumn. The flowers resemble the shape of a tube with a white centre surrounded by deep green, small, and glossy leaves. With its sturdy stems, the plant grows gracefully forming a bushy and dense shrub. It can be planted alongside other perennials and shrubs. It can also be planted as a hedge in coastal climates to act as a windbreaker. Escallonia Apple Blossom grows exceptionally well in sunny spots. To plant it, dig a deep, large hole that can accommodate the plant’s root ball. Without disturbing the soil around the roots, take the plant out of its pot and place it at the bottom of the hole ensuring the plant’s crown is level with the ground. The roots need to be in direct contact with the soil while sitting at the same depth as it was in the container. Cover the hole with soil and gently firm it in before pouring water to allow the soil to settle around the roots. This plant is easy to care for and requires little maintenance. Mulch the plant during summer and remove dead blooms to encourage the plant to flower again.Water the plant regularly during the first weeks of planting and during summer. However, do not over water because as the plant continues to grow the roots go further down in search of moisture. Like other evergreens, Escallonia apple blossom requires pruning to maintain the shape of the plant. This plant can grow to four feet tall and is perfect for a small garden. The plant thrives in an open and sunny climate and works well with roses and other shrubs. In addition, it does well in acidic or mildly alkaline well-drained soil. The plant is resistant to salt spray, drought and wind, but does not do well in extremely cold and dry environments. Remove dead or damaged stems from the plant during early spring before the onset of fresh growth and then prune the plant. Low maintenance make Escallonia apple blossom ideal as a foundation or wall plant. The best time to plant it is during spring so that it has enough time to settle before winter. We ship Escallonia apple blossom plants throughout the UK and Ireland.

It has large green heart-shaped leaves in abundance that turn warm yellow shades in autumn. In the spring to summer months Japanese Hydrangea Vine Moonlight develops large sprays of fine white flowerheads surrounded by creamy white protective florets. Hydrangea Arborescens Invincibelle Pink Annabelle

Hydrangea Arborescens Invincibelle Pink Annabelle

Hydrangea Arborescens Invincibelle Pink Annabelle, more simply known as Pink Annabelle, is an Arborescens variety of hydrangea with large, show-stopping pink blooms. Pink Annabelle is a pink version of the very popular white Annabelle hydrangea known for its easy growing habits and fabulous blooms. Pink Annabelle is also easy to grow, and has been bred to retain its dramatic pink shade no matter what the soil Ph.Pink Annabelle’s leaves emerge in spring, and they provide an understated backdrop for the pink blooms that reach up to thirty centimetres in diameter. The full rounded heads emerge in early summer as a hot luminous pink before softening to a baby pink. Pink Annabelle flowers throughout the summer and often into autumn sometimes only dropping its pink blooms when frosts arrive.Hydrangea Arborescens Invincibelle Pink Annabelle will reach a height of 1 -1.5 metres if well cared for. How Hardy is Hydrangea Arborescens Invincibelle Pink Annabelle?Pink Annabelle is full hardy in the UK and can be grown in full sun to partial shade although it does prefer morning sun and afternoon shade in very hot summers as sunshine can fade its blooms. Very windy areas may find the flowers are shaken loose or damaged. How To Use Hydrangea Arborescens Invincibelle Pink AnnabellePink Annabelle is a bright addition to the flower border. Its eye-catching colour goes best with white shades, and because the flowers last all summer it’s a great performer. Pink Annabelle can be grown very successfully in deep pots on the patio too, preferring ericaceous compost. Use her as a one off show-stopper or as matching bookends for an archway or door. How To Care For Hydrangea Arborescens Invincibelle Pink AnnabellePink Annabelle prefers a sunny to semi-shade position and good quality soil. Soil does not change her blooms as with other hydrangeas, so dig in lots of well-rotted organic matter before planting out, ensuring it’s well mixed with the surrounding soil. It’s not necessary to feed Pink Annabelle and try to avoid overwatering her because the extra nutrients can make the flowers grow so large that the branches cannot support their weight. A yearly mulch or compost is sufficient. If Pink Annabelle becomes too large or you need to maintain her size, prune back excess branches after flowering has finished. This cultivar blooms on new wood, unlike other hydrangeas that blooms on the previous year so don’t be afraid to prune back hard. Pink Annabelle is high-impact low-effort plant that deserves a space in every garden.  If you’re a lover of pink flowers Pink Annabelle is set to become your new garden favourite.

Calamagrostis X Acutiflora Karl Foerster. Feather Reed Grass

Calamagrostis X Acutiflora Karl Foerster. Feather Reed Grass

Calamagrostis X Acutiflora Karl Foerster Sometimes called feather reed grass, Calamagrostis X Acutiflora Karl Foerster is a beautiful clump-forming perennial grass with an upright growth habit. As an ornamental grass, it is prized for its feathery white and green flower heads in the summer that change to amber later on. Architecturally speaking, Calamagrostis X Acutiflora Karl Foerster has a strong upright habit and its erect flower heads make a strong statement. The flower heads can be up to 6 feet tall in the right conditions with the grassy green foliage underneath growing to about 3 feet tall. It is particularly soothing to hear the flower heads rustle as they as they move and sway in the summer breeze. In autumn, the amber tone of the dry seed heads contrasts nicely with the green of the foliage. From a design perspective, use feather reed grass in a narrow area as a kind of a tall accent. Placed in front of a wall or a fence, the tall and slender flower heads act as semi visual boundary or transparent hedge – your eye stops at the flower heads but you can still see through them. If you are creating a wall of ornamental grass, ideally plant Calamagrostis X Acutiflora Karl Foerster circa 60 cm apart.  Calamagrostis X Acutiflora Karl Foerster also works well when planted in rockeries, mixed borders.  These ornamental grasses will be dormant during the winter but will come back again in the spring time. Cut them back to ground level in February to March time to help the new growth for next year to come through. Feather Reed Grass Karl Foerster loves full sun or partial shade and any moist but well drained fertile soil. Average height is around 1.5 metres with an average spread of 75 cm.

Corylopsis Pauciflora. Buttercup Witch Hazel. Winter Hazel

Corylopsis Pauciflora, also known as Buttercup Winter Hazel or Buttercup Witch Hazel, is native to Japan and Taiwan. This is an early spring bloomer that flowers from February to April and brightens up a bare garden with its yellow blooms before the main flowering shrubs of summer get underway. The RHS have given this superb early flowering shrub the Award of Garden Merit. Like many early flowering shrubs, Buttercup Winter Hazel blooms before its foliage appears. These blooms are an inch long, sweetly-scented and a pale yellow bell-shape. They fall in racemes and attract the early waking pollinators. After flowering Buttercup Witch Hazel will produce three inch leaves tinged with red that mature into a fresh, bright green.Buttercup Witch Hazel is an average growing shrub that’s bushy in summer. It will reach a maximum of one to one and half metres in height and will spread over one and half to two and half metres over ten to twenty years. It can be trained and looks very attractive bordering a wooded edge. Wildlife gardens benefit from Buttercup Witch Hazel because it provides an early food source to pollinators when there is generally little about. Because Buttercup Witch Hazel is slow growing it is suitable for smaller gardens and can be placed near the home where you can appreciate it in the chilly early spring months. It’s also worth planting some near a path or seated area, so you can enjoy its honey-sweet scent. In winter, drape some solar lights through the framework to brighten a dull day.early spring favourites such as snowdrops or hellebores planted beneath create a delicate pale feature area before the summer riot of colour arrives. How To Care For Corylopsis PaucifloraButtercup Witch Hazel prefers partial shade and an acid soil. It will manage in other soils but will flourish in the more acidic conditions. Well-drained moist soil will be appreciated as will a yearly application of mulch in January to February.Corylopsis Pauciflora does not require consistent pruning but its best to remove diseased, damaged or crossed shoots to maintain an open healthy framework. It’s perfect for smaller spaces or the patio. Ninebark Tiny Wine is a deciduous shrub with foliage that first grows a bright bronze-maroon before maturing into a summer burgundy. The leaves are refined and feathery, spaced out along the length of its upright stems. Red tones are evident throughout the growing season into autumn. These tiny button-like flowers contrast perfectly with the dark maroon foliage. This shrub is compact, reaching a maximum height and spread of around a metre, but it still attracts butterflies and bees in summer who love its many open-centred dainty flowers. How Hardy Is Physocarpus Opulifolius Tiny WineNinebark Tiny Wine may be compact, but it is extremely tough and hardy down to sub zero temperatures, and is fairly drought-resistant too. It is suitable for use across the UK.  How Can I Use Physocarpus Opulifolius Tiny WineThis new and compact version will not grow as tall or spread as far as its cousins Ninebark Dart's Gold or the red Ninebark Diablo, and this means it is perfect in a variety of growing situations. They like full sun, but will tolerate some partial shade in most well-drained soils. If you are container growing be sure to water them frequently. A good thick layer of manure in early spring will help boost the foliage and flower display too. Ninebark Tiny Wine can be shaped but regular pruning is not necessary. If you want to trim yours back, cut out a third of its branches in winter and remove any broken stems. Physocarpus Opulifolius Tiny Wine is a versatile shrub in any garden, but it’s an especially good choice for the gardener with little time who still wants an exceptional flower display. It’s strong structure and contrasting growth makes this a standout compact shrub.

It lends an exotic air of the tropics to UK gardens, but this herbaceous perennial has a degree of hardiness that makes it possible to survive the winter in milder parts of the UK. It has received the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Originally growing in Sichuan province of China before being introduced to the Ryukyu Islands south of Japan, Musa basjoo is noted for its rapid growth and large, spectacular leaves and unusual flowers. Its thick, paddle-shaped leaves, up to 60 cm across and more than 2 metres long, fan out from the stem in a fountain shape.  In summer it produces spikes of cream-coloured flowers, which hang downwards.  Throughout the summer it will grow in height, with new leaves unfurling almost every week. Given the right conditions and protection, the hardy Japanese banana plant can grow to 4 metres in height with a spread of 2.5 metres in 5 to 10 years. A container-grown Musa basjoo will be somewhat smaller because of the restrictions on the root system.Musa basjoo will survive outside in very mild parts of the UK without winter cover, but wherever there are freezing temperatures, it needs protection after the first autumn frost.  Build a cage out of chicken wire, or make a tube out of horticultural fleece, and stuff it with straw or leaves to insulate the plant from freezing temperatures. Mulch the ground heavily to protect the roots. Musa basjoo will grow back from the roots even if the stem is killed off in the winter, as it is root-hardy to -15C. Growing from the roots, the hardy Japanese banana plant can reach a height of 2 metres in one summer Musa basjoo needs to be carefully sited in your garden. Find a sheltered spot with a south-facing aspect, in full sun or dappled shade.  Plant in well-drained but moist sand, chalk or loam soil with a nitrogen-rich fertilize and plenty of humus. It prefers a slightly acidic ph. If it settles in happily, you will be able to remove suckers to plant elsewhere in the spring, or divide the clumps every five years. Cut the flowering spikes off after they finish blooming, as the Musa basjoo will die after setting fruit, and you will want to keep it as an ornamental plant for many years!Plant your hardy Japanese banana plant as a specimen plant in the middle of a lawn, where its dramatic, exotic appearance will create a stunning focal point. It is also an excellent candidate for container growing on a patio or in a courtyard, and can then be easily brought in to a greenhouse or conservatory for overwintering.  Musa basjoo will bring the jungle to your garden with its dramatic leaves, and is well worth the trouble that it will take to protect through a UK winter.

Acer Palmatum Dissectum Flavescens Japanese Maple Flavescens

Acer Palmatum Dissectum Flavescens Japanese Maple Flavescens

Acer Palmatum Dissectum FlavescensThe Japanese Maple Flavescens (Acer Palmatum Dissectum Flavescens) is a 6-8 foot small, ornamental Acer tree that looks beautiful in any landscape garden. It is a member of the dissectum group of acers. For an acer, it has unusually bright yellow and fresh green leaves in spring and early summer. In fact, the actual name of this beautiful Acer means "yellowish”. As summer progresses, the green colour of the leaves darkens considerably. In autumn, the foliage is bright yellow and can be dramatically tinged with orange, providing a colour spectrum of golden and orange. As with all dissectum acers, the leaves are deeply lobed with 5 to 7 lobes per leaf. Although a small tree, Flavescens is a vigorous grower, its natural growth habit being pendulous and dome-shaped, as you would expect from the dissectum acers. Acer Palmatum Dissectum Flavescens is often described as having a cascading habit. It grows best in sunny patches with partial shade, and in well drained soils. After ten years of growth, you can expect this tree to measure around 8ft in height although sizes can vary.  Acer Palmatum Dissectum Flavescens is also suitable for container growing.Japanese maples have an array of stunning colours all year round and this can be incorporated in the landscape design. When determining the placement of these trees, you should think about the colour changes throughout the year and the way this will impact on the rest of the garden or landscape. What's great about the Japanese Maple is its ability to create a dramatic effect. For example, if you decide to place a Japanese Maple Flavescens on a slope, it will hang in a graceful dome, creating a cascading effect. The Japanese Maple Flavescens is a beautiful, vibrant tree that compliments any garden. It features a range of colours which vary from season to season. Upkeep is minimal due to the tree coping in many weather conditions and terrains.
