Cornus Alba Sibirica or Siberian Dogwood for Sale Online

Cornus Alba Sibirica or Siberian Dogwood for Sale Online

Cornus Alba Sibirica also known as Siberian Dogwood is a popular tree or shrub and a real winter pleasure. It has one of the brightest barks in winter, as it blazes with vivid red colour when exposed to the sun. Siberian Dogwood is not fussy about soil and is easy to cultivate and maintain. The previous season’s vivid growth is cut back each year to form a thicket of crimson stems that naturally expands by layering. While Cornus Alba Sibirica is prized for its vibrant coloured bark that can blaze orange-red and yellow, it has many other decorative attributes. So much so, that many homeowners plant Siberian Dogwoods as a focal point on their lawns because of their ornamental value. In addition to attractive bark colour, Siberian Dogwood produces small creamy white flowers in spring. They appear in flat-topped clusters measuring about two inches each. The large foliage is a grey-green with white margins which turn a vibrant reddish purple in autumn. Clusters of bluish-white fruits emerge during late summer. The fruits have as much ornamental value as the flowers. They are also attractive to birds and pollinators. Red winter stems gradually turn darker as spring approaches. In terms of size, Siberian Dogwoods can grow to 10 feet tall. In terms of aspect, Dogwoods tolerate different types of soils and do well in open spaces where their stems look best during winter. If you are planning to plant a red-stemmed dogwood alongside a yellow or gold one for contrast, consider keeping them in matching groups rather than mixing them up.Dogwood pruning should be carried out in spring to ensure a brighter display during winter. Prune the stems almost to ground level to encourage new shoots to emerge. The new shoots can grow over four feet tall during spring and summer. The fresh growth provides a vibrant colour the following winter. Cornus alba Sibirica is a Tatarian Dogwood cultivar with brilliant red stems in winter that provide an attractive display on sunny winter days, even further embellished when there is snow on the ground. This is fast growing, multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub that requires minimal maintenance. The tree grows well in organically rich, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Consider trimming your Siberian Dogwood roots with a spade regularly to remove unwanted root suckers. For the best displays, Cornus Alba Sibirica should be grown with full exposure to the sun or partly shaded. Although the tree can tolerate a wide range of soils, it should be planted in moist, well-drained soil. Young stems often have the most vivid and impressive colours. We deliver Siberian Dogwood throughout the UK, Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic.

Escallonia Rubra Macrantha Hedge Plants for sale Online

Escallonia Rubra Macrantha Hedge Plants for sale Online

An evergreen shrub, the Escallonia Rubra Macrantha grows to a height of 3.5 meters and a width of 3 meters. This variety has an upright growth habit and is one of the biggest of all the Escallonias. Exceptionally fast growing, it is a favourite hedge or screen plant. It averages a growth rate of 30 to 45 centimeters per year. The shrub can easily be maintained as a much smaller hedge plant with regular pruning and is often kept at a compact size of only 1 to 2 meters. Pruning should take place in the early spring with an additional light shearing mid-summer to maintain the desired shape. From June to October, Escallonia Rubra Macrantha produces an abundance of bright pink or red tubular flowers that attract butterflies and bees to the garden. The flowers persist on the shrub until the first frost. The foliage of the Escallonia Rubra Macrantha is bright mint green. Oval in shape, each leaf also carries a pleasing spicy aroma that is often more noticeable during the evening and morning hours. An Escallonia rubra macrantha hedge grows well in a wide range of soil types and is not picky about pH levels. It prefers well-draining soil and does not tolerate saturated roots. Unlike many other shrubs and hedge plants, Escallonia Rubra Macrantha Hedge Plants tolerate maritime conditions well and can even withstand heavy, frequent salt spray. An Escallonia Rubra Macrantha Hedge stands up well to heavy winds without breaking which makes it an ideal windbreak choice. Escallonia rubra macrantha enjoys at least eight hours of sunlight per day. It can be grown in partial shade, but its growth is often stunted. The shrub does not grow well in full shade and may perish without adequate sunlight. When planted as a shrub, it produces a dense wall of foliage that also makes a good sound barrier when planted between a home and a busy roadway. The thick growth muffles noise and creates not only visual privacy but also a substantial audio reduction. Only somewhat cold-hardy, the Escallonia rubra macrantha can withstand a drop in temperature to -10 celsius. If an extreme cold is forecast, the shrub requires protection. The Escallonia rubra macrantha does not like any root disturbances. Once planted it should not be transplanted or disturbed. The popularity of the Escallonia rubra macrantha shrub is undeniable. It was first mentioned in literature back in 1922 in Virginia Woolf’s book Jacob’s Room. Once established, the picturesque Escallonia rubra macrantha requires very little care to thrive. It is an ideal addition to any landscape or garden as a hedge plant or specimen shrub. The non-stop summertime display of flowers helps add colour to the garden when many plants cease to bloom.

Cornus Alba Gouchaultii also called Variegated Dogwood or Tartarian Dogwood, is an excellent landscaping shrub providing an attractive garden accent in all seasons! This hardy deciduous red barked dogwood has many striking features - variegated foliage with colours of lime green, golden yellow and red tips (when young); white spring flowers and bright red stems which become highly visible in winter.  Native to central Asia, Cornus Alba Gouchaultii’s variegated leaves emerge in spring with a tinge of pink, maturing to a bright green centre edged with gold with splashes of pink. This vigorous grower responds very positively to pruning, as the best winter stem colour is obtained from newer growth. Cut one quarter of the stems back to the ground in early spring so that the new growth will shine in winter, while the older stems will flower and produce the decorative berries. If planting as an informal hedge or in a clump, space Tartarian Dogwood 90-150 cm apart. Cornus Alba Gouchaultii will thrive when planted in full or partial sun in moist, fertile chalk, loam or sand soil with an acid to neutral pH. It will do well in an exposed or sheltered position with any aspect. Tolerant of salt, Tartarian Dogwood is a good shrub for a coastal location, and its extremely high tolerance for pollution makes it ideal for city gardens. As well, being deer and rabbit resistant, it is well-suited to country gardens. Variegated Dogwood particularly lends itself well to mass plantings so that the winter show of its vivid red stems can make a big statement! Plant in a row as an informal hedge, or as part of a mixed hedge for variety. On a larger country property, a mass planting in a damp spot will be a magnet for pollinators and birds, as well as providing a stand-out display in an otherwise drab winter landscape. In a smaller garden, one specimen plant of Tartarian Dogwood will make a big impact all on its own, and can be easily pruned to maintain a manageable size.Cornus Alba Gouchaultii, with its hardiness and year-round ornamental value, is a great addition to your garden, whether it’s one specimen in the corner of a city garden or a mass planting on a country property!
