Amelanchier Laevis Snowflakes. Juneberry Snowy Mespilus Tree

Amelanchier Laevis Snowflakes. Juneberry Snowy Mespilus Tree

Amelanchier Laevis Snowflakes is a beautiful, upright deciduous tree of the Amelanchier family prized for its large white spring flowers. It originates from North America and is also known as the Juneberry Tree or Snowy Mespilus Tree. The terms snowflakes and snowy refer to the large star-shaped flowers that cover its branches in April and attract early pollinators. This pearly spring display is the main reason gardeners choose a Snowy Mespilus Tree over others.Alongside those striking blooms Amelanchier Laevis Snowflakes produces fresh copper-coloured foliage that stands out against the white flowers. Its bushy foliage gradually turns green in the summer when its edible purple-red berries ripen. Birds will quickly eat the Juneberry Tree’s fruit. In autumn the Snowy Mespilus Tree produces dramatic orange-red foliage. It is a beautiful and practical choice for a small, wildlife-friendly garden.Juneberry Tree Hardiness LevelsThe Juneberry Tree is hardy in all UK climates and requires no specific care. Although it prefers acid or neutral ground it will grow in the majority soils and can withstand extreme cold if not waterlogged around the roots. Winds will not harm the tree but will shake the flowers loose more rapidly. How To Use Amelanchier Laevis SnowflakesIf you have a small garden the Snowy Mespilus Tree is a practical addition because it can be grown as a large ornamental shrub or as a compact, shallow-rooted specimen tree reaching an approximate height of four metres within twenty years.  A Snowy Mespilus Tree can be grown in the ground or in a large container which will limit its size. If you choose to grow one in a pot ensure you provide plenty of water in the hot summer months to ensure the best autumnal foliage display. How To Care For Your Amelanchier Laevis SnowflakesVery little pruning is required, in fact an Amelanchier Laevis Snowflakes is self-sufficient, but it’s worth cutting out any crossed stems or dead wood in winter or late spring to hold the shape. Amelanchier Laevis Snowflakes will grow best in moist free-draining soil with a yearly layer of thick organic mulch which will improve the flower display in spring. All Amelanchier appreciate sun on their foliage canopy. If you can plant yours in sunlight it will boost the rich orange autumnal colours. The tough yet beautiful Amelanchier Laevis Snowflakes is a valuable source of colour throughout the year with frothy white flowers in spring, fresh green summer foliage with purple-red berries and a stunning orange autumnal display. These attributes make it an ideal feature tree for small to mid-sized gardens.

Wisteria Floribunda Caroline Wisteria Sinensis Caroline

Wisteria Floribunda Caroline Wisteria Sinensis Caroline

Wisteria Floribunda Caroline or  Wisteria Sinensis Caroline also Wisteria CarolineThe Wisteria Sinensis was first introduced to the western world from China in 1816. The cultivar Wisteria Sinensis Caroline is a relatively new variety. It was created in New Zealand and is widely coveted for its breath-taking flower display and striking foliage. Unlike other wisteria climbers, Wisteria Floribunda Caroline blooms in the mid- to late spring months. The fragrant flowers persist into the early summer. The flower racemes of the vine start to bloom simultaneously to create a stunning display. Each dangling flower cluster measures up to 30 centimetres in length. The racemes are comprised of small pea-sized lilac and purple blossoms. Bees, butterflies and birds adore the sweetly fragrant blooms. After flowering, the Wisteria Sinensis Caroline produces bean-like seedpods. As summer progresses, the pods ripen. When autumn arrives, they normally still persist on the vine for visual interest. The foliage of Wisteria Caroline is feathery and soft green in colour. The pinnate leaves are made of 11 small leaflets that emerge a grey-green in the spring and take on a brighter green shade during summer. When autumn arrives, the dense foliage turns a bright yellow. When fully grown, the Wisteria Floribunda Caroline will easily reach a height of 9 meters. It grows well against walls, a trellis, an arbour, a pergola, or a fence. It will also grow free-standing if given ample support for its heavy frame.Plant the Wisteria Sinensis Caroline in full sun for ample flower production. It will grow in partial shade, but will generally not produce as dramatic of a flower display. The vine prefers moderately fertile soil that is well-draining. During the first year of growth, keep the soil moist to encourage the vine to produce a strong root system. After the first year, the vine can tolerate short periods of drought well. The Wisteria Caroline requires regular pruning to maintain its overall size and shape. Pruning also promotes new growth and better flower production. Restricting the vine’s vegetative growth by trimming encourages the vine to produce short flower shoots. Prune Wisteria Caroline twice a year: in January-February and again in July-August. There is little doubt that the Wisteria Floribunda Caroline is a dramatic addition to any garden setting that is sure to gather great admiration. Its eye-catching beauty is awe-inspiring. Plant the vine anywhere that the blooms can be visually enjoyed and where the blossoms heavenly aroma will tantalize the senses.

Actinidia Kolomikta Climber. Actinidia Kolomikta for Sale

Actinidia Kolomikta Climber. Actinidia Kolomikta for Sale

The Actinidia Kolomikta climber will bring not only the fragrance of its flowers to your garden, but most notably the striking variations of colour on the leaves will contribute considerable visual interest. It has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit for these desirable qualities.  Native to eastern Asia, the Actinidia Kolomikta Climber has been grown in the UK since the 1870’s, and is a favourite of gardeners for its variegated foliage. The heart-shaped, 15 cm long leaves are a deep purplish-green when they emerge in spring, and then turn a medium green, developing irregular patterns of silver white and then pink. Some leaves will turn completely pink, while others just have pink tips, creating an overall tapestry of green, pink and silver. Small, 1 cm white flowers appear from May to July, and have a pleasant fragrance. If male and female vines are planted together, the females will produce a crop of 2.5 cm long fruits in fall, similar to kiwi. However, the colour variations that are so desirable are more notable on male plants, and Actinidia Kolomikta is often grown for ornamental purposes only.Hardy in most parts of the UK, Actinidia Kolomikta will quickly climb up a wall or trellis to a final height and spread of 4-8 metres in 5 to 10 years. Prune in late winter to remove dead wood and shape the vine. It will need a trellis to wrap its stems around, and some stems will need to be tied to supports. Plant your Actinidia Kolomikta in full sun for best foliage colour, in a sheltered, south-facing exposure, in any well-drained fertile soil, preferably with a slightly acid to neutral ph. It is not susceptible to pests or diseases, but cats are even more attracted to it than to catmint, so make sure that young leaves are protected!Actinidia Kolomikta Climber will look stunning when allowed to spread out against an old brick wall, or when trained up into the crown of a tree. The flowers are round and flat and are produced in summer, generally from June right up until the end of August.Stewartia Pseudocamellia has highly decorative foliage. It has many noteworthy attributes including its eye-catching foliage colour from spring right through to autumn, showy white flowers in mid-summer and in winter months its flaking bark is an attractive textural addition.Stewartia Pseudocamellia has received the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society, a sure sign that it will perform well in most gardens.

Magnolia Butterflies. Yellow Magnolias Buy Online UK

Magnolia Butterflies. Yellow Magnolias Buy Online UK

Magnolia Butterflies is a cross between Magnolia Acuminata and Magnolia Denudata to create a true yellow flowering Magnolia. This beautiful specimen usually forms as a small tree. With striking, primrose yellow blossoms and a compact, pyramidal form, this ornamental tree is an excellent candidate for a specimen tree.Same as its close relatives from the Magnolia family, the Butterfly variety is grown for its gorgeous, fragranced blossoms. It has yellow, loosely star-shaped scented flowers that appear in March to April, well before the leaves emerge, giving a fabulous display. The upright, non-fading blossoms of Magnolia Butterflies have a pleasant, citrus scent, and look particularly elegant and graceful against bare branches. After the abundant flowering season ends, elliptic, dark green leaves unfold, providing interest through to autumn.Although Butterfly Magnolia appears delicate, this elegant deciduous tree is actually quite robust. It can survive temperatures as low as -20 degrees, and it’s fully hardy in Britain and Ireland. However, this cultivar appreciates a sheltered position, as late frosts or strong winds might damage the flower buds. Growing Tip: Magnolia Butterflies prefers a well drained acidic soil, can grow up to  4-5m tall and 4-5m wide. Adaptable to clay and sandy soils, as long as the soil is not overly wet. It will thrive in full sun or partial shade and is full hardy.Even though it can be grown as a multi-stemmed shrub, Butterfly Magnolia is at its best when cultivated as an ornamental tree, with a single trunk and a pyramidal crown. To ensure that this ornamental tree is in great shape, prune regularly in mid-summer to early autumn, to avoid bleeding of the sap. To restrain the size of this cultivar, thin out the shoots every few years, and routinely remove watershoots and dead or damaged stems. As it’s virtually impossible to remain indifferent to Magnolia Butterflies in full bloom, this striking tree is often a choice for a statement or a focal plant. The canary yellow, goblet-shaped flowers that envelop the bare branches of this cultivar brighten up the garden, especially if planted in a partially shaded corner. Combine Butterfly Magnolia with other acid-loving plants, such as azaleas and rhododendrons. Or, for a particularly dramatic effect, pink flowering varieties of Magnolia such as Magnolia Soulangeana Satisfaction.
