Corylus Rode Zellernoot Red Leaved Hazel Tree for Sale Online

Corylus Rode Zellernoot Red Leaved Hazel Tree for Sale Online

Corylus Rode Zellernoot or Red Leaved HazelIf you are looking for a productive and beautiful native hedge or shrub then it’s worth considering Corylus Rode Zellernoot - the Red Leaved Hazel. This stunning hazel hybrid produces edible nuts and glorious foliage. The full botanical name is Corylus Avellana Rode Zellernoot. It is a hybrid of Corylus Maxima and the common hazel Corylus Avellana. Rode Zellernoot means ‘red nut’ which refers to its leaf colour. Red Leaved Hazel is a decorative deciduous shrub that produces new red leaves in spring each evenly spaced along its fine, whippy branches. These serrated red leaves grow larger than the common hazel and mature into a bronze-green during the summer months before falling in the autumn. In summer, after the foliage is established, Red Leaved Hazel produces catkins. The male catkins are yellow-green and the female are a much smaller red catkin. Edible oval-shaped hazelnuts begin to appear in late summer to early autumn. The nuts are hidden inside red-toned husks with only the top peeping out. The nuts are particularly tasty and attractive to wildlife. How Hardy Is Corylus Rode ZellernootThe Red Leaved Hazel is extremely hardy, its parents being native to the UK. It will survive our winters and wet conditions, although young plants may need protection from harsh, drying winds for the first few years. How To Use Corylus Rode ZellernootAll hazels provide shelter and food for wildlife, particularly when grown as part of a hedgerow. This makes it an attractive hedging option for a wildlife garden. Hazel manages well in coastal and urban areas too. Corylus Rode Zellernoot will produce lots of new growth each year, reaching a maximum height of 3-4 metres, but it can be cut back in winter to maintain its size and shape.Corylus Rode Zellernoot varies from other varieties of hazel in that its foliage is a brighter red than its cousins, and its stems run straight to form a tight hedgerow, unlike Corylus Avellana Red Majestic which is an attractive red shade but has corkscrew branches.  How to Care For Corylus Rode ZellernootHazelnuts are among the easiest nuts to grow and they take up much less space than you would think. The Hazelnut family includes Corylus Avellana which is the common hazel and closely related filberts and cobnuts. All members of the Hazel family produce showy catkins in spring (these are male) which pollinate the very small flowers (female).  If you want to create a hedge in larger spaces, place your hazels four metres apart and reduce their height to encourage bushiness. Hazelnuts are very hardy being tolerant of cold and wet conditions. It will prefer a rich, loamy soil but will grow well in chalky and clay conditions provided it’s not water-logged. To ensure a maximum supply of nuts, it is best to plant at least 2 hazel trees (of any variety) as they are wind pollinated.Corylus Rode Zellernoot is as highly valued for its decorative display of changing leaves and showy catkins as it is for the tasty hazelnuts. If you want to grow a crop of nuts for autumn, help wildlife and create a beautiful display the Red Leaved Hazel is for you.

Laburnum Anagyroides Sunspire Laburnum Sunspire for Sale

Laburnum Anagyroides Sunspire Laburnum Sunspire for Sale

Laburnum Anagyroides Sunspire or Laburnum Sunspire, is a new variety of an old garden favourite. Its smaller size and narrow form compared to the regular Laburnum makes it an ideal tree for smaller gardens where the standard variety may not fit!A deciduous tree, Laburnum is native to the mountains of central Europe, and was introduced to the UK in 1560, where it has remained popular ever since. Laburnum Anagyroides Sunspire, found in northern Italy and Croatia, combines the most desirable characteristics of the original with a more compact form. In late spring and early summer, the green leaves on the upright branches are hidden beneath 30 cm long racemes of fragrant golden-yellow flowers which are at first erect and then droop after a couple of weeks. They are followed by hanging clusters of seed pods that can be removed and disposed of. The oval leaves are a green to grey-green colour and remain attractive throughout the season. All parts of the plant are highly toxic if ingested.Hardy in all parts of the UK, Laburnum Anagyroides Sunspire will slowly grow to a mature height of 3 metres and spread of 1.5 metres. Once established it is drought-tolerant. It has little salt tolerance so is not suited to coastal regions, but will tolerate pollution so Laburnum Sunspire makes a good choice for small city gardens. Deer are not attracted to it, so it will be safe from grazing in country locations. Laburnum Anagyroides Sunspire will make a striking specimen planting as the focal point in a small lawn, where its narrow width and smaller height will not overpower the space. A row planted along a walkway would create a brilliant display when the flowers are in bloom. Tucked towards the back of a mixed border, a Laburnum Sunspire would be a bright column of yellow when in bloom, and an attractive backdrop to flowering plants the rest of the season. Laburnum Anagyroides Sunspire is ideal if you are in need of a brightly flowering small tree.

Alston and East Malling Research in Kent by crossing Cox’s Orange Pippin with Idared. It is synonymous with Malus Domestica Red Pippin.During the spring months, Malus Domestica Fiesta boasts an abundance of pink flowers that fade to white. Following flowering, the tree starts fruit production. It produces an ample crop of lovely orange apples that feature a red flush. The apples can also display reddish stripes over a green and yellow background. The apples produced by the Apple Fiesta tree are mid-sized and very colourful during the autumn months before harvest. They feature a rich, sweet, crisp flavour. The fruit is wonderfully juicy and popular for making apple juice. It is a favourite dessert apple or can be eaten fresh. The apples are usually ready for harvest in late September.Height and Spread of Malus Domestica FiestaThe Fiesta Apple attains a height of only 4 to 8 meters with a canopy width of 4 to 8 meters wide. It typically takes up to five to 10 years for the tree to attain its full height.Malus Domestica Fiesta grows best when planted in full sun. It prefers well-draining soil that is rich in compost. After planting, keep the soil moist to encourage root growth. Once the tree is established it requires very little water to flourish and really only needs to be watered during bouts of drought. Apple trees should be pruned in the late winter or early spring. The Apple Fiesta tree is an excellent pollinator. The tree is not self-fertile, so it also must have a pollinator planted close by in order to produce a crop of apples. The apple tree that you pick to be a pollinator for Apple Fiesta should flower at approximately the same time to ensure pollination.  Throughout the UK, Malus Domestica Fiesta grows well with very little care.In 1987, this variety of apple tree was bestowed the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society.

Hydrangea Aspera Villosa Hydrangea Villosa Group for Sale UK

Hydrangea Aspera Villosa also called the Hydrangea Villosa Group, are lovely, late summer bloomers which will make your garden glow with their purple flowers. These long-lasting and exotic-looking plants will fit right in to a shady spot in your garden! Native to western China, Hydrangea Aspera Villosa are a type of what are called rough-leaved hydrangea, but that descriptor belies the soft, velvety texture of the greyish-green leaves of this deciduous shrub. However, it is for the spectacular late-summer blooms that the Hydrangea Villosa Group is prized. Starting in July, the large, deep pink flower buds emerge, opening into large flat-topped flower heads, up to 20 cm across, revealing a beautiful deep blue-purple lace cap highlighted with small mauve-white florets. The flower display lasts into October, attracting bees and butterflies to your garden when other nectar sources have dried up. Hardy in most of the UK, even in severe winters, the Hydrangea Villosa Group will grow to a mature height and spread of 1.5-3 metres in 10 to 20 years. Prune in early spring to remove dead or damaged branches only, as flowers bloom on old wood. If necessary, cut back an overgrown Hydrangea Aspera Villosa in mid-summer.  Hydrangea Aspera Villosa can be planted in anything from full sun to shade in an exposed or sheltered position, in well-drained but moist loam, sand, or clay soil amended with plenty of organic material and with an acid to neutral pH. One of the advantages of the Hydrangea Villosa Group is that it is not dependent on an acid soil to maintain the blue colouration. While it will grow in a coastal garden, it should be given some protection from salt winds. However, hydrangeas are very tolerant of pollution, so will do well in city gardens. Deer resistant, Hydrangea Aspera Villosa will thrive in a country location without additional protection. A specimen Hydrangea Aspera Villosa will create a splendid late summer show when other flowers have quit for the year, carrying through into the autumn. Plant it in a mixed border or against a wall for maximum impact, but give it room to spread. It’s a natural choice for a cottage garden! Hydrangea Aspera Villosa is an old favourite, and for good reason: this hardy, low-maintenance beauty will grace your garden with its striking purple blooms, bringing colour to the autumn garden!

Cornus Sanguinea Anny's Winter Orange or Dogwood Anny's Winter OrangeCornus Sanguinea Anny's Winter Orange also called Dogwood Anny's Winter Orange, is vigorous shrub that provides a striking winter display. The small bush grows to a height of 90 to 120 cm with a similar spread. It is multi-stemmed with a suckering growth habit. The tough shrub is exceptionally eye-catching when massed as a shrub border or used as an informal hedge. It also makes an acceptable privacy screen. During the spring months, the dogwood sprouts large, ovate green leaves that stand out in stark contrast to the yellowish-orange stems. When summer arrives, Cornus Sanguinea Anny's Winter Orange produces dense clusters of white flowers that readily attract butterflies and birds to the garden. Following flowering, ample blueberry-like berries form that are a deep purple hue. The berries attract a bevy of birds who enjoy dining on them. In the autumn months, the foliage of the Dogwood Anny’s Winter Orange takes on shades of bright orange, bronze and yellow before falling. However, even though the foliage has disappeared, the true show is just beginning. The stems begin to develop a bright yellow colour. As the cold winter weather progresses, the stems turn orange and boast bright red tips. The vibrant colours of the stems persist throughout the winter months and look extremely striking in any garden setting. Cornus Sanguinea Anny’s Winter Orange grows best in full sun or partial shade. It is not fussy about soil type but prefers moderately moist conditions that are not overly wet. Ideally, the soil should be high in organic content.
