Leading the Vulnerable and The Mighty - Dorothy Ns Mukasa - Bog - Troubador Publishing - Plusbog.dk

Margaret was a huge personality, an optimist with a great sense of humour. She advocated for gender equality, universal health access, and the welfare of the health workers. Leadership opportunities came her way unexpectedly. However, she would rise to the challenge and during her tenure, prove to be a dynamic and transformational leader. The eldest of 6 siblings, a prefect in all her schools, the first woman President of the Ugandan Medical Association, the first African woman President of the World Medical Association, the first Ugandan woman Rotary Country Chair and the first African President Elect of the International Association Medical Regulatory Authorities. She had unfulfilled ambitions to be Uganda’s first Forensic Psychiatrist. Hope After Rape was a charity she initiated in the aftermath of brutal civil wars, which took a catastrophic toll on women and girls. Unending insecurity wreaked havoc on people’s mental health in the 1980s and 1990s. Extremist curious phenomena emerged, such as the fierce warring Priestess, Alice Lakwena and her Holy Spirit Movement; the warlord Joseph Kony and his gun toting Lord’s Resistance Army, attacked villages at night, killing, maiming and kidnapping the innocent; the murder of thousands by Joseph Kibwetere and his cult Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments. The mental state of thousands was devastated, mental health services were severely under resourced, Margaret had to keep mental healthcare staff inspired and motivated to continue working. A renowned Rotarian, Margaret as Country Chair, led 70 Rotary Clubs. At the height of her achievements, having just taken early retirement, her sights set on the IAMRA presidency, she was diagnosed with colon cancer. Despite her beliefs in universal health access, she turned to health tourism for cancer treatment in India. Her commitment, determination and resolve came through to the end of her fight for life. This was an ordinary woman who excelled in leading the vulnerable and the mighty, in challenging environments with minimum resources.

The Golden Shore - Warwick Braithwaite - Bog - Troubador Publishing - Plusbog.dk

New Zealand-born conductor, Warwick Braithwaite, was a seminal figure in the musical life of Britain for more than fifty years. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and went on to tour with Joseph O’Mara’s Grand Opera Company. At the time, he was believed to be the country’s youngest professional conductor. Braithwaite worked with all the major British orchestras and many of the greatest artists of his day. He was associated with important musical institutions at key moments in their development, becoming the first Musical Director of the Welsh National Orchestra, and guiding the Scottish Orchestra through the difficult years of WWII. Much of Braithwaite’s career was spent conducting opera for Sadler’s Wells, Welsh National Opera, Carl Rosa, and Covent Garden. He also worked with the Royal Ballet in London, and toured with them to Germany, France and Italy. Extensive post-war engagements took him to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Iceland and the Republic of Ireland. Editor Roger Flury, former Curator of Music at the Alexander Turnbull Library in Wellington, had unique access to Braithwaite’s archive – including the conductor’s substantial autobiography, published here for the first time. Flury contributes additional chapters covering Braithwaite’s musical legacy in Wales and his later years with Sadler’s Wells Opera. The volume is enriched with several important appendices charting Braithwaite’s family, his significant recording career, his writings and – most important of all – his many compositions. Braithwaite emerges as an unsung hero in the history of music-making in the first half of the 20th century.

Jacobite Sons in New South Wales - T. J. Lovat - Bog - Troubador Publishing - Plusbog.dk

Jacobite Sons in New South Wales is the last book in the Trilogy that tracks the Lovat family from the devastation of the Jacobite Rebellion in the Scottish Highlands to their resettlement in Australia. In the first book, Son of a Jacobite , Thomas is born on the day his father is killed at Culloden, marking the defeat of the Scots at the hands of the English. Growing up in Lancashire, he travels to Persia as a young man and discovers Islam. After joining the British Army, he serves in the American Wars, struggling with being a British Officer due to his rebellious Jacobite spirit, one he sees reflected in the American cause. In The Jacobite Grandson , Thomas takes his son, Edward, to Persia where Edward also comes to understand the Islamic world. Edward joins the Royal Navy and travels to New South Wales, struggling like his father with his rebellious heritage, especially as he sees the injustices meted out to the convicts and Indigenous peoples. In Jacobite Sons in New South Wales , Edward’s two sons, Thomas and Charles, migrate permanently to New South Wales, one as a pioneer educator, the other as a pioneer clergyman. It covers their own struggles with the sectarianism and divisions that characterised public and church life in the colony at the time. Much factual history is inserted into the lives of all the key characters through events and people such as Thomas Jefferson, Sir Joseph Banks, Sir Arthur Philip and later governors of New South Wales. The history is coloured by the love lives, happy and sad, of all the main players.

After The Wild Geese - John Yarnall - Bog - Troubador Publishing - Plusbog.dk

After The Wild Geese - John Yarnall - Bog - Troubador Publishing - Plusbog.dk

In 1691, many of those in the Irish catholic army defeated by William of Orange fled to France, where they established the tradition of “Irish Brigades” fighting the British from abroad to secure Irish independence. They became known as the “Wild Geese”. Over the ensuing years, several Irish nationalists set up brigades in different conflicts. This book sets out the history of those brigades and their charismatic leaders, starting with Thomas Francis Meagher, a participant in the 1848 rebellion who was transported to Tasmania before escaping to America and establishing a brigade in the US Civil War. “Foxy Jack” MacBride established a brigade fighting the British in the Boer War, married the famous actress Maud Gonne (friend of the poet W B Yeats), and was executed for taking part in the Easter Rising 1916. Born in Australia, Arthur Lynch also formed a brigade in the Boer War, following which he became a British MP, and was found guilty of treason, before being pardoned and establishing a separate brigade in the British army in the First World War. Roger Casement, humanitarian and ex-British Consul, is the most famous of those covered. Casement was executed in controversial circumstances for establishing an Irish Brigade during the First World War. This work examines those circumstances in depth and the true role that he played in the Easter Rising. The last of those covered was Joseph Patrick Dowling, jailed for landing in Ireland from a German submarine in 1918. The book examines the part played individually and collectively by the brigades in finally securing Irish independence, drawing heavily on British official documents.

The Garden Where Four Rivers Flow - Uriel Hart - Bog - Troubador Publishing - Plusbog.dk

The Garden Where Four Rivers Flow - Uriel Hart - Bog - Troubador Publishing - Plusbog.dk

“…and when you make male and female into a single one, so that the male shall not be male, and the female shall not be female…then you will enter the kingdom.” From the ‘ Gospel of Thomas ’ If you were to weave together elements of the story of Jesus, the ‘Song of Solomon’, the atmosphere and feminine magic of a Celtic fairy tale, it might read something like ‘The Garden Where Four Rivers Flow ’ , the first book in ‘The Passionate Master’ series. Set in biblical times in the enchanted forest of Elnazar, it is a re-imagining of the love story of Mary and Joseph: the song of Rebekah, the weaver, and Heshel, the carpenter. Rebekah, the spider girl, the daughter of Ariadna, her childhood dream to weave the robe of rainbows. Invisible as the wind to her one true love. Heshel, son of the cedars and mortal king of the Fair Kind, his one secret desire to pursue the craft of the carpenter. It is the testimony of the Baal-Azar, the fire priest, the magi from the mountain, of his role in the birth of Yeshua, the Blue Star Spirit. Yeshua, Yeshua, thus named by the wind. Fated to be crowned upon the bitter cross. It is a eulogy heralding the coming of the divine androgyne. ‘Tis the ancient, hidden tale of ‘The Alchemical Wedding’. So listen. Listen. Listen. Listen. To the Voice Of The Silence. To the Voice Of The Flame. The Prophecy fulfilled. The Word uttered, proclaimed. For when the red star rises and the blue star descends, when these two have come to be as one, when goat lies with leopard and wolf with the lamb, salvation shall spring forth from the Rock Of Horeb.
