The World Gas Trade - Melvin A Conant - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

The proximity of vast reserves of natural gas to the great energy-consuming markets of the world, the relative environmental harmlessness of gas, and its competitive price make the use of gas increasingly attractive to an energy-hungry world. Within the next two decades we will see the use of gas and gas-related technologies expand in industrialized nations as well as among developing countries. An international group of authorities on the political economy of natural gas analyzes the key factors influencing present gas supplies and uses and looks to the future, when new logistic systems and technological advances will affect both producers and consumers. The basic political, economic, and security considerations of energy will undergo a concomitant change in response to the increased availability and affordability of gas. In most markets, government monopolies direct the gas trade; in North America there will be a renewed role for private enterprise. Japan may also find its position greatly altered; although there are at present no pipeline connections to suppliers, and Japan is currently dependent on far-away sources of liquified natural gas, the contributors predict that future gas links to East Asia are highly likely. The World Gas Trade explores the growing gas trade, anticipating that within the next several decades the foundation will have been laid for gas-fueled economies to displace oil-based economies in the world system.

Real Gas Flows with High Velocities - Vladimir V. Lunev - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Real Gas Flows with High Velocities - Vladimir V. Lunev - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Despite generations of change and recent, rapid developments in gas dynamics and hypersonic theory, relevant literature has yet to catch up, so those in the field are generally forced to rely on dated monographs to make educated decisions that reflect present-day science. Written by preeminent Russian aerospace researcher Vladimir V. Lunev, Real Gas Flows with High Velocities reflects the most current concepts of high-velocity gas dynamics. For those in aviation and aerospace, this is a vital methodical revitalization and reassessment of real gas flows with regard to the physical and gasdynamic effects related to high-velocity flight, and, in particular, the entry of bodies into the atmosphere of Earth and other planets. Much more than just a manual on gas physics, this book: - Analyzes fundamental challenges associated with super- and subsonic flight Describes the physical properties of gas mixtures and their associated high-temperature processes from the phenomenological standpoint Explores use of computational mathematics and equipment to simplify previously unsolvable problems of inviscid and viscous gas dynamics Explains why numerical methods remain inferior to analytical methods for creating a conceptual understanding of gas dynamic and other physical problems Avoiding older, cumbersome approximate methods, this reference outlines the general patterns and features of typical flows and how real gas affects them. Referencing simple, analytically treatable examples, similarity laws, and asymptotic analysis, the author omits superfluous explanation of reasoning. This valuable reference summarizes general theory of super- and subsonic flow and uses practical problems to develop a solid understanding of modern real-gas flows and high-velocity gas dynamics.

Small-Scale Gas to Liquid Fuel Synthesis - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Small-Scale Gas to Liquid Fuel Synthesis - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

It is estimated that a large fraction of natural gas reserves are found in locations from where transport is not economical. If these isolated natural gas reserves could be converted to synthetic fuels, they would generate around 250 billion barrels of synthetic oil—a quantity equal to one-third of the Middle East’s proven oil reserves. Small-Scale Gas to Liquid Fuel Synthesis explores next-generation technologies geared toward overcoming the significant cost and technical barriers prohibiting the extensive use of conventional gas to liquid (GTL) processes for the exploitation of small and/or isolated natural gas reservoirs. The book highlights key research activities in the framework of two large European projects— Innovative Catalytic Technologies & Materials for Next Gas to Liquid Processes (NEXT-GTL) and Oxidative Coupling of Methane followed by Oligomerization to Liquids (OCMOL) — examining novel technical developments that reduce the costs associated with air fractioning and syngas production. Featuring contributions from internationally respected experts, Small-Scale Gas to Liquid Fuel Synthesis discusses innovative GTL technologies based on recent advances in catalytic membrane systems, reaction engineering, and process design. The book provides academic and industrial researchers with a concise presentation of the current state of the art of low-cost, energy-efficient GTL technologies for small-scale applications.

Agricultural Land Use and Natural Gas Extraction Conflicts - Tina Hunter - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Agricultural Land Use and Natural Gas Extraction Conflicts - Tina Hunter - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Onshore unconventional gas operations, in most jurisdictions, operate on the legal principle that all activities during exploration and extraction are ‘temporary’ in nature. The concept that the onshore unconventional gas industry has a temporary effect on the land on which it operates creates a regulatory paradox. On one hand, unconventional gas activities create energy security, national wealth and a bourgeoning export industry. On the other, agricultural land and agriculturalists may be significantly disadvantaged by unconventional gas activities potentially producing permanent damage to non-renewable fertile soils and spoiling the underground water tables. Thus, threatening future food security and food sovereignty. This book explores the socio-regulatory dimensions of coexistence between agricultural and onshore unconventional gas land uses in the jurisdictions with the highest concentration of proven unconventional gas reserves – Australia, Canada, the USA, the UK, France, Poland and China. In exploring the differing regulatory standpoints of unconventional gas land uses on productive farming land in the chosen jurisdictions, this book provides an original three-part categorisation of regulatory approaches addressing the coexistence of agricultural land and unconventional gas namely: adaptive management, precautionary and, finally, statism. It offers a timely and topical approach to socio-legal natural resource governance theory based on the participation, transparency and empowerment for agricultural landholders, examining how differing frameworks such as the collective bargaining framework can create equitable and sustainable contractual arrangements with unconventional gas companies.
