June Schwarcz: Artist in Glass and Metal - B. Jazzar - Bog - Skyhorse Publishing - Plusbog.dk

June Schwarcz (1918-2015) was among the most innovative artists working in the contemporary enamels field. Best known for her electroplated metal sculpture embellished with rich enamel colour, she produced an extensive body of work that, while linked to long-standing vessel-making traditions, defied convention. In a field known for visual opulence, preciousness, and adherence to traditional craft practices, Schwarcz was a renegade. She learned enameling on her own and adopted a highly experimental approach to process, inventing new ways of creating sculptural objects in metal and unorthodox strategies for their embellishment. Believing in the power of opposing principles, she created forms that were at once raw and elemental, elegantly composed, and lushly beautiful. A seminal figure in the American craft field, Schwarcz led enameling workshops across the country and influenced several generations of young and emerging artists. She also played a central role in the craft community of the San Francisco Bay Area, where she lived and worked for more than fifty years. June Schwarcz: Artist in Glass and Metal is the first publication to investigate Schwarcz's work in depth. It explores the rich trajectory of her career along with the sources and influences that helped shape and define her singular vision. It also investigates the themes and subjects that intrigued her as it examines the role she played in advancing enameling in America in the late twentieth century. This lavishly illustrated publication celebrates the extraordinary body of work Schwarcz created over a period of sixty years. AUTHORS: Bernard N. Jazzar and Harold B. 'Hal' Nelson are authorities on the history of enameling in America in the twentieth century. In 2007 they founded the non-profit Enamel Arts Foundation to support and promote the modern and contemporary enamels field. Jazzar is curator for the Lynda and Stewart Resnick Collection in Los Angeles, and, until his retirement in 2017, Nelson was curator of American Decorative Arts at the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California. In 2006 they co-authored Painting with Fire: Masters of Enameling in America, 1930-1980; in 2015 they co-authored Little Dreams in Glass and Metal: Enameling in America, 1920 to the Present; and in 2017 they co-curated June Schwarcz: Invention and Variation for the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. SELLING POINT: . First book to chronicle the life and artwork of June Schwarcz, a pioneer craftsperson in the enamel and decorative arts field 290 colour images

Nantucket Cottages and Gardens - Leslie Linsley - Bog - Skyhorse Publishing - Plusbog.dk

Nantucket Cottages and Gardens - Leslie Linsley - Bog - Skyhorse Publishing - Plusbog.dk

A beautiful, colorful guide to bringing the style of Nantucket Island to your home. There is something essentially charming about a simple cottage surrounded by a fence covered with roses. More than 1,200 of these houses can be found on Nantucket Island. Nowhere in this country are there more charming and diverse cottages featuring small pocket gardens and window boxes than on Nantucket. To a large extent, the character of the island is reflective of these little early homes. They were originally built by and for island residents at a time when islanders didn’t require, didn’t desire, or couldn’t afford anything larger. Living small, as typified by cottage living, has become the responsible, chic, innovative, and practical wave of the immediate future. Many homeowners are rethinking their needs in regard to space, opting for more quality and less quantity of space. They know that a house is more than square footage, and a small home is one that can be infused with special details and designed to accommodate the lifestyle of its occupants. Neither size nor volume has anything to do with style and comfort. The homes and gardens featured in Nantucket Cottages and Gardens reflect classic design elements that have been embraced in the past and continue to survive in the present. Throughout this book, the cottages of Nantucket will inspire those who are building new, renovating, or decorating a small home. When the quantity of space is pared down, more money can be spent on the things that give a house character, such as built-ins, weathered wood furniture, unique art pieces, and handmade textiles, to name a few.

The Little Blue Book of Nurses' Wisdom - Nacole T. Riccaboni - Bog - Skyhorse Publishing - Plusbog.dk

The Little Blue Book of Nurses' Wisdom - Nacole T. Riccaboni - Bog - Skyhorse Publishing - Plusbog.dk

Nursing is an exceptional profession that will fill your heart and, at the same time, empty your tank. Nurses work countless hours forming community bonds and forming lasting relationships. They impact the ones around them with their attention to detail, caregiving, and unwavering advocacy. Nursing tasks are never singular, one-dimensional objectives but rather diverse, multifaceted check boxes nurses work on and implement to improve their patients' health outcomes. No nurse is the same, no patient is the same. Each nursing shift provides a different experience; adaptation is essential each and every hour. Nurses are chameleons and leaders who go above and beyond, making it all work out and making it the impossible look simplistic. Nursing is a profession that cannot be quantified in one sentence, and nurses aren't individuals who have linear mindsets. Whether you are a nurse, know a nurse, or on your way to being a nurse, The Little Blue Book of Nurses' Wisdom will remind you of just how great nursing is and how much support the nursing profession offers individuals worldwide. Read and reflect on each quote. Allow these words to touch your heart and trigger memories of your present and future self. ?Nursing isn't merely a profession. It is a mindset. Let your mood be empowered and encouraged by these wonderful messages. “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” —Benjamin Franklin "Love yourself enough to set boundaries. Your time and energy are precious. You get to choose how you use it. You teach people how to treat you by deciding what you will and won’t accept.” —Anna Taylor “Kindness can transform someone’s dark moment with a blaze of light. You’ll never know how much your caring matters.” —Amy Leigh Mercree “We overestimate the event and underestimate the process. Every fulfilled dream occurred because of dedication.” —John C. Maxwell “We hardly ever talk about trauma afterwards, because it helps to live in a world where we can pretend it never happened.” —Joyce Rachelle "There are two types of people who will tell you that you cannot make a difference in this world: those who are afraid to try and those who are afraid you will succeed." —Ray Goforth
