Understanding Dogmas and Dreams - Nancy S. Love - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

Understanding Dogmas and Dreams - Nancy S. Love - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

Nancy Love’s concise yet complete volume aims to inform students of their choices among political values. By exploring the assumptions of various ideologies and comparing their positions, students begin to understand political alternatives to be able to choose among them—in essence, they learn to think democratically. Offering historical and analytic context for the selections in her companion reader, Dogmas and Dreams, Love challenges students to consider the various ways ideological frameworks shape political actions.Reframing her approach in this second edition, Love examines how traditional left/right ideologies—liberalism and conservatism, socialism and fascism—are shifting to adapt to new political realities in an ever turbulent, post-9/11 world. She also discusses why alternative ideologies—feminism, environmentalism, fundamentalism, and globalization—may better convey our global political future. While pushing the boundaries of the left/right political spectrum, she looks at how grassroots social movements offer alternative ways to view ideological differences, from cluster-concepts to micro-discourses, and even a planetary galaxy. Expanded coverage includes: - a new chapter on nationalism and globalization, which examines the work of Samuel Huntington, Kenichi Ohmae, Benjamin Barber, and many more, to explore fundamentalism in Islamic politics - increased coverage of global environmental politics, including Shiva’s Stolen Harvest and Kelly’s Thinking Green, examining the relationships between developed and developing countries - fresh material on socialist politics post-1989 and the rise of neo-fascist movements in the United States and Europe, including analysis of Hayden and Flacks’ "The Port Huron Statement at 40" and Bob Moser’s "The Age of Rage" - an updated feminism chapter that considers the impact of third-wave, post-colonial, and so-called "power" feminists and incorporates new analysis of Wollstonecraft’s A Vindication of the Rights of Woman and Mohanty’s Under Western Eyes Revisited

Guiding Teams to Excellence With Equity - John J. Krownapple - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

Guide your school through its cultural proficiency transformation Despite the best efforts of equity leaders, our schools suffer from persistent inequities. Guiding Teams to Excellence with Equity is a must-read for anyone who values equity and excellence and supports the professional learning of adults in our schools. Author John Krownapple helps readers develop as culturally proficient facilitators, and equips them with the skills, tools, and techniques to navigate the obstacles that arise during systemic equity transformations. - - Includes a powerful, running vignette that illustrates common challenges, principles, and solutions - - Focuses on mental models for managing group energy - - Is grounded in a systems model for personal and organizational transformation - - Provides a range of tools for planning culturally proficient learning experiences - This is the book leaders need to learn how to facilitate a group’s journey from awareness to commitment to action in support of inclusion and equity. "What John has done here is remarkable. He′s taken the intuitive art of facilitation, illustrated it with a story, and explained it with theory, data and graphic examples. It′s clear, cohesive, comprehensive, and integrated. I like that we follow one story throughout, and that a plethora of facilitation techniques are embedded in that story. I particularly like how facilitation is contrasted with training. John has broken the facilitation rubric into bite-sized pieces, which makes it useful to leaders of professional learning. I love this book; Guiding Teams to Excellence with Equity is a book we′ve all been waiting for." Kikanza Nuri-Robins, Author of Fish Out of Water "Based in abundant research, this valuable book contains myriad strategies and protocols for building collective efficacy in educational teams. It is a must for those who wish to perfect their facilitation skills, who desire a deeper understanding of the emotional and cognitive transformation during the human journey of personal enlightenment, and for those who believe that the future of our democracy depends on equity and cultural proficiency." "This comprehensive, thoughtful, and clearly written book provides helpful strategies for educational professionals to teach children and youth with Asperger syndrome (AS). Every teacher interested in AS will want to read this book." —Susan Moreno, PresidentMAAP Services for Autism & Asperger Syndrome How can you make the school year successful for your students with Asperger syndrome? Asperger syndrome (AS) is a disorder in the autism spectrum, and students with AS suffer from similar, though milder, symptoms as students with autism. Classroom teachers who are charged with teaching students with AS generally have not been provided the skills and knowledge to do so. Crafting and implementing plans for students is nearly impossible without a clear understanding of the disorder, or clearly defined instructional methods and strategies. Children and Youth With Asperger Syndrome provides important strategies in teaching children and youth diagnosed with AS. This essential resource for teachers and other educators presents research-based, instructional, behavioral, and environmental strategies for teachers, including: - Adaptations for success in general education settings - Environmental modifications, including visual supports and organizational strategies - Technology accommodations - Transition planning - Emotional, behavioral, and social supports Children and youth with AS are often misunderstood. These individuals have great potential that frequently remains unrealized because the modifications they require to be successful are not made. By using the practical strategies in this guide, however, educators can at last effectively meet the needs of students with AS.

Psychotherapy with Older Adults - Bob G. Knight - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

Psychotherapy with Older Adults - Bob G. Knight - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

This Third Edition of the bestselling Psychotherapy with Older Adults continues to offer students and professionals a thorough overview of psychotherapy with older adults. Using the contextual, cohort-based, maturity, specific challenge (CCMSC) model, it draws upon findings from scientific gerontology and life-span developmental psychology to describe how psychotherapy needs to be adapted for work with older adults, as well as when it is similar to therapeutic work with younger adults. Sensitively linking both research and experience, author Bob G. Knight provides a practical account of the knowledge, technique, and skills necessary to work with older adults in a therapeutic relationship. This volume considers the essentials of gerontology as well as the nature of therapy in depth, focusing on special content areas and common themes. Psychotherapy with Older Adults includes a comprehensive discussion of assessment and options for intervention. Numerous case examples illustrate the dynamics of the therapeutic task and issues covered in therapy and stress the human element in working with older adults. A concluding chapter considers ethical questions and the future of psychotherapy with older adults. The author has updated the Third Edition to reflect new research findings and has written two entirely new chapters covering psychotherapy with persons with dementia and psychotherapy with caregivers of frail older adults. Since its initial publication in 1986, the book has been used as a course text and a professional reference around the world, including translations into French, Dutch, Chinese, and Japanese. It is a vital resource for practicing therapists and counselors who work with older adults and is also ideally suited as a text for advanced students in psychology, social work, gerontology, and nursing. Praise for Previous Editions: "Bob G. Knight′s largest contribution is his excellent discussion of therapy. The book is clearly written, with a good use of summaries and case examples to clarify the major points. By linking research findings to practice experience, Knight has provided a pragmatic introduction which should be helpful to psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and psychiatric nurses working with older adults." —JOURNAL OF APPLIED GERONTOLOGY "I recommend this book to anyone interested in working with the elderly, partly because of the content and partly because the author presents the case for doing psychotherapy with the elderly with realism and enthusiasm." —BEHAVIOR RESEARCH & THERAPY
