Modern wind music in the style of the great Big Bands was the model for the composition Band Fever by Otto M. Schwarz. The piece features two soloists, saxophone and flugel horn. Rhythms such as Hip Hop and Double Samba support acatchy melody played by the full band. This forms the basis for the soloists' improvisations. This unique concert band work allows both soloists and conductor to display individuality and creativity. Farewell Medley

While it can be fairly easy to select a musical piece for the beginning of a concert, the search for a proper closing piece can sometimes be more difficult. Helping to fill this gap was Stefan Schwalgin's motivation for this Farewell Medley. In this piece he has woven four world-famous folk tunes from the Anglo/Irish/Scottish culture (Danny Boy, Amazing Grace, The Last Post and Auld Lang Syne) into a high-quality arrangement that allows the band to display its full range of colours at the end of any concert.

Landscapes is a work structured around two main ideas. On the one hand, the music freely paints some of the superb landscapes I’ve seen during several of my trips around the world. Listeners should, however, not be influenced by this programmatic framework and are encouraged to build their own ‘mind pictures’.On the other hand, Landscapes constitutes a test piece for each section of the brass band. Indeed, each musical landscape highlights a particular register. A small group of soloists is given the opportunity to fully display its skills in dialogue with the rest of the band (the tutti), hence the name ‘concerto grosso’. Landscapes also relies on the band’s different soloistmusicians when it comes to express highly complex, musically and technically challenging passages.

A unique work in the world of wind music, Band Fever allows both soloists and conductor to display individuality and creativity. It is especially suitable as an opener of the light part of a concert, or as afeature number for special soloists in the orchestra.
