The English flute virtuoso and composer Robert Valentine (c. 1680-c. 1735) lived in Rome, where also his major works appeared, and returned home only in 1731. His sonatas, among others the 12 sonatas published in this volume, were originally written for recorder. In the present-day practice they can be performed either on recorder or on flute.

Az otthon éjjel : Text by Orsolya Karafiáth

Máté Bella's choral work for children Home at Night was commissioned by the town of Debrecen for the 26th Béla Bartók International Choir Competition in 2014. Its text is the first poem with the subtitle Spiders of the cycle with the same title written by Orsolya Karafiáth. The piece effectively represents the dreamworld of the poem with its strange and sinister atmosphere, which in the end is dispersed by awakening.

'The arrangements included in the present volume reflect the first musical impressions of my childhood. In their harmonisations reminiscences of some turns heard at my parent's home can be detected sporadically... The piano writing is dance-like throughout but tries to make the musical material as varied as possible. Easy Duos For Two Violins : Leichte Duos für zwei Violinen

Composer and violinist János Lavotta (1764-1820), as a member - together with János Bihari and Antal Csermák - of the ''virtuoso trio'' who played a great role in the history of Hungarian music, was one of the pioneers of verbunkos music. Although his violin duos op. 49 must have also been used for playing music at home, they show the composer's clear educational intent, since the fourteen consecutive pieces represent a gradually increasing difficulty in both technical and musical respects.

In 1964, Emil Petrovics (1930-2011) arranged two verses for mixed choir from Sándor Weöres's early rhythm exercises, Himfy Stanzas. Like a choral rhapsody, this two-movement work, Metropolis, juxtaposes the idyll of the night and the hustle and bustle of early morning workers. The title Metropolis appears first as a counterpoint to the peace of the countryside, then as a home for work, factories, and a vibrant affirmation of life. Both movements share the effective use of the mixed choir as well as the prominent use of imitation and dynamic increases built up through repetition. Larger choirs will indeed find a demanding and rewarding piece of repertoire in this work byPetrovics.
