Company of Heroes is a real-time strategy game from the authors of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War and the popular Homeworld series. The discussed product refers to the turbulent years of the Second World War, but focuses on the activities of the United States in the western part of the European continent. The mobile conversion was developed by Feral Interactive studio. The iOS version was originally released only for the iPad (January 2020) and only after a few months it hit the iPhones (September 2020)
The scenario of this item opens the moment of the famous Allied sea-air landing in Normandy, fiercely defended by the occupation forces of the Third Reich. The single-player campaign, like a high-class feature film, presents the fate of brave American soldiers from the eponymous "Company of Heroes". On the other hand, the multiplayer mode allows you to play (local network or the Internet) for up to eight people, controlling allied forces or commanding Germany. Naturally, the creators implemented a lot of authentic locations, military machines, etc.
Thanks to the graphic "engine" called Essence Engine, virtual reality looks very suggestive. The three-dimensional world is susceptible to destruction, so we watch, for example, tanks run over stone crosses in cemeteries, the formation of funnels after explosions and spectacular collapse of buildings under the influence of heavy shelling. In addition, a realistically functioning Artificial Intelligence makes comrades-in-arms a perfectly functioning team, using terrain obstacles as covers, quickly reacting to enemy movements, etc. In turn, the Havok technology (see, among others, Painkiller, Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne and Thief: Deadly Shadows) guarantees a proper reflection of the laws of physics.
